Treating SS w/ Azamax

So my cooking super soil definitely has gnats it's been cooking for 2.5weeks. When should I treat it with azamax? Should I wait till I have cooked it for a full month? Should I put it in 7 gallons pots and treat it that way instead of treating the entire trash can? PLEASE HELP! Thanks

I was in your situation one time and just treated the entire trash can and I didn't notice any ill effects.

seems like alot of extra work to divy it up into pots and essentially do the same thing you would do if it were all in the trashcan.

I don't know but I don't see it making a difference if you used it on the soil now or 3 months from now...

I dont know dude, you may want to get the spinosad. Fuck the azama/azatrol. No matter what I do with the aza-shit I seem to get a return appearance of whatever I was trying to kill. I finally went and found some spinosad, mixed it up into a drench and hit all my plants and have only seen sporadic fungus gnats here and there but the out breaks are getting smaller and smaller. Theres a reason he recommends the spinosad and not azamax. I've always used it in the past with good results but since I've gone organic, it isnt cutting it anymore. I just get bugs with an immunity to azamax now.

The stuff I found with the spinosad in it is called captain jacks deadbug or something like that.

yea spinosd will work but there is a better alternative, go buy sum predator nematodes and water em into ur super soil, it wont effect ur microlife and will continue to take care of any soil born pest, the nemdotes eat the larvae and adults, they attack almost all soil dwelling insects, also if u have pets and are worried about fleas or ticks this summer u can water sum nematodes in ur lawn and they will go tho eating all the larvae, so not only can they help the plants but they can help u as well, i live in a area where there is alota wildlife and alot insects that crawl around and can be dangerous or agitating for my dog so i water my property wit nematodes every spring and summer, anyway give the nematodes a whirl before adding anything else, it will take em bout a week to get established an a hold on the problem but once they're in there they work wonders

I got some nematods off of amazon, cheap.
Yea the nematodes are the same price as the azamax so it sounds like the todes are gonna kill the mites and be more affective. Im gonna go to the hydro store 2maro and see if i can find some. Thanks for the input.

Semor90- I also am a big fan of the nemotodes I use them on my plants and yard every grow season and have never had a problem with gnats, fleas, grubs or any soil born pest really. I also use beneficial insects for other pest control. I get my beneficials at hydro-gardens inc which is local for me. I'm sure you can find something in your area out there though as shipping is kinda pricey.
www.hydro-gardens.com is there website where you can check out and read about some of the beneficials that they offer.
Good luck

I pre-inoculate my SS with the Nematodes and BTI dunks. I also add crab shell meal, Neem meal and DE to the soil. I have never seen a single pest again. I don't use Azamax, though I have it ready in case I need a nuke. I never have, however.

mites or fungas knats? for knats the nematodes will work wonders, for spider mites i would get predator mites, for thrips id get sum lady bugs, u can fight insects with other insects and never have to spray with a pesticide again
