Transplanting

Hey there guys..
New Grower here... this might sound like a stupid question but.. are there any disadvantages to transplanting too early? i.e. plant is still a seedling and transplanting it might put stress on the plant etc?

Looking forward to a reply, much thanks:hump:

Transplant when you can see roots through drainage holes at the bottom of the pot. You want a good rootball before transplanting.
(good luck).

Your set up also has to be considered. Whereas a lot of other people start in peat pots, go to beer cups, and then to a permanent container, I go straight from peat pots to five gallon buckets, as I want to minimize any chances for shock. This only works if you have enough lights to be able to cover seedlings in five gals.

And it requires a lot more water to get it to the roots in a big pot.

potting up takes just minutes, however different strokes for different folks. I personally don't want to be watering a 5 gallon pot with enough water to benefit a seedling. Thats a lot of wasted water...
