Transplanting stretched seedlings?

I have 5 seedlings all working on their second or third node. They are all very healthy except for the fact that their stems have stretched longer than I want them too. Due to a limited grow space is it possible to plant them a few inches deeper when transplanting to save grow space. I know if this is done with woody plants the stem will rot and the plant will die. Will the same thing happen to a herbaceous cannabis plant? Will the stem tissue in the soil grow roots or rot? And would a rooting hormone help?

PS. I have moved the light closer so they are no longer stretching.:joint:
