Trade war may cost a million jobs!

The war with China has already cost 300,000 jobs.
Why wasnt it an issue when the Fortune500 were initially allowed to take their physical factories to the Far East, three or four decades ago? Why is a point of contention now? Optics?

Why is the modern day equivalent of Sears Kmart and Montgomery Wards for example are regaling in their China wealth, Apple, Google, Amazon but all their brain dead customers to pretend they are "woke".

A better headline might say: If you are typing on on electronic device you just cost a job to Chin.....err I am a hypocrite". Not you the author, the ambigous voice of the American over-consumer.

American businesses were correct in opening businesses in China, and we have benefited tremendously because of it.

Buying everything they could make less expensively than us they were able to grow their agricultural societies into the beginnings of a nice middle class, and we got good cheaper than we could make them. Then we turned around and sold them high end equipment and other goods/materials/garbage at a huge profit for those companies. That is what gets lost in the troll of foreign trade, both sides benefit or they would do the trade in the first place.

We just screwed up by not investing like we should have in moving those workers into new fields. I think the people 40ish to retirement age are the ones who had to play catch up with the change in the workforce that computers brought about. I know in the rural school I went to anyways, they were just getting their first computer lab in my high school the year I graduated.

And we polluted the globe, but we are learning about the need to be cleaner on a global scale now.

it's an issue now. It should have been before.

Totally agree that we should never have started trade negotiations with the government that slaughtered its people in Tienanmen Square. Totally agree that US businesses blundered when they gave up rights to intellectual property in order to gain access to China's virtual slavery-based economy.
Totally agree these were wrong.

It's still wrong.

Yet, Trump's ultra nationalist, racist and bungling policies are wrong too. He says his trade war is all about mending the trade imbalance with China, He took those despite advice against doing so from people who knew better. It turned out they were right. Trump's trade war increased the trade deficit with China. Not sure Trump is innocent on that account.

Vote Republicans out.

Tariffs are a regressive tax on that impose the greatest burden on low-income Americans, would you agree?

100% agree in a pure form of idolized capatalism....what would you agree is the postion of a subsidy? Because those are doled out bigger to FANG companies than the wall Street bailout, mainly because its state money and not added up together w Fed moolah, its a second economy of windfall essentially....Amazon for instance pays like 1% of wgat a normal business pays for postage.
Tariffs I believe wouldnt exist or be needed except to offset subsidies, which we have.

Completely agree and yes lets vote them out whatever, vote out all parties, the symptoms wont change.

For instance, in that last run of the TPP shirtly before Dotards arrival, Wyden was pushing for the feds to grant 15% tariffs to Canada to import their wood into the States essentially restricting a portion of US lumber shipped to Canada.

Remeber we live in #1 logging state by board feet and Wyden stuck to this position till at least 2015. Remember that Trump in 2017, after dumping the TPP, put in reverse tariffs, now at 20% from Canada, not to, and restricted essentially incoming Canadian timber and presumably a benefit to Oregon, still the number #1 logging state and Senator Wyden supported this! The ultimate flip flop. Vote scum out sure, but they are following money not party lines.

I suppose I would prefer using the literal definition: a sum of money granted by the government or a public body to assist an industry or business so that the price of a commodity or service may remain low or competitive.

What's the quote again? "There's nothing wrong with Capitalism the a government subsidy can't fix!"

There's some fun arguments to be made with the uniformity clause, but if we're being direct: at the point subsidies don’t effect every place in which the taxes to pay for them are collected from (which are virtually every subsidy I can think of), subsidies are unconstitutional.

Are subsidies part of free market capitalism? idk - pretty sure they aren't.

Consider Wyden's opponent then vote. Who among Republicans or third party candidates would you consider the better candidate for Senator?

Yes. And that is just one of the reasons he gave the low income American the biggest tax cut ever. To offset some of that.
Oh, and also gave the low income American a job ...

Do you know how much the low income American gave up during WW2 to win that one? A lot. But, back then, people had balls. They knew they had to win that war because the alternative was not possible.
We have to win this war with China. We can not let them continue to steal intellectual ideas, and manipulate money. We built China ... now they need to take over.
You just gonna have to dry your tears and get in that car and drive for Uber tonite so you can make a couple extra bucks .... and you STILL got it better than 99% of Chinese.

Under the newly-revised Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, low-income American's will lose essentially all of the benefits provided by the bill in 2026, while corporations get a massive, permanent cut. On top of that, about 13 million people would lose their health insurance because the bill now repeals Obamacare’s individual mandate.

Permanent for corps, but temporary for private citizens? Ummmm...

Drive an Uber for a third job to try to make ends meet, when they won't, because of bullshit right wing economic policy. Why are you and the other right wing fucking assholes always trying to tell people what to do? Slave driving fascist! Just admit your fucking impotent like Trump and his policies.
