Total reccomended watts/sq.ft. Is 50

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING

Ok heres where im at....
I know that the reccomended watts/sq.ft. is 50 and the way U figure this is to take the total amount of grow space In a grow area (LXW) and times that # by 50 to achieve the size of Lamp U need.

FOR EXAMPLE: My grow space is (2X4=8sq.ftX50=400 watts is ideal)?

WHERE IM stuck @ is In my experience more light is better i guess and in my particular grow space I am maxed out @ 66.7777 watts/sq.ft....

IF Possible Would it not be better to try and achieve 50 watts/CUBIC FT.?


What formula could I use to attain total watts/cubic ft.?

PLEASE if there are any super stoner math dudes here tell me if this looks right...

(LXWXD IN FT.=TOTAL CUBIC.FT CONTAINED IN A GROW AREA)

WOULD YOU SIMPLY THEN JUST TAKE ur # of total cu.ft and times that x50 to attain 50 watts/cubic ft.?

For example: My area is (2x4X4=32x50=1600 total watts/cubic ft.)

I have seen monsterous grows with extraordinary harvest here...

If you can cool it in that space.....seems to make mathematical sense......particularly for vert grows.......:hump:

I love cubic space and was thinking vert from the get-go, but hey.....one step at a time as I see it......crawl before walking sort of thinking:mrgreen:

I am in the same boat trying to figure the amount of light required in my 4X10 ft room with 2X7 Ft growing area.

This is an additional question im tacking on here btw,
would a 1000Watt HPS be overkill? I have plans on installing a good exhaust system

hey im no rcoket scientist but from what ive seen is they use the watts per square foot rule because of the flat growing area. To use the watts per cubic foot rule you would dealing with a vertical grow. To easier explain would be comparing a piece of paper vs. a cylinder. Hope I am making sense but again I may be completley off! Just my 2 cents! Either way just use as much light as possible without creating heat problems and without burning plants!

Like i said man , you can almost heat asmall house with a good 400 watt hps , so perfect if u have a thing they call ....a/c but in your space i wuld use a window a/c unit and u no it would be like hangin out so it wouldnt take up space in your lil aera an it wi dehumidify + be the fan an a good one will heat and wow simple a?

I asked my super stoner Electrical Engineer POPS and he also said it sounds about right lol...
Then again I made him spoke a few bowls the other night and sent him to the store for 4 items LMAO...He called me 6 X in 2 hours on a dro journey
and didnt come back with anything he set out to get!

in a 2x7 layout...2-400w lights would probably serve you best

Hhhhmmm, I have 3000w in flower and 1000w in veg and it doesn't keep the two well insulated rooms warmer than 70 let alone the adjacent rooms......the warm a house with a 400watter is all I could decipher:mrgreen:

I agree with OLD CHECK out his grow by the way...The 7 ft. stretch would be better to uniformaly illuminate w/ 2- 400 watters...And u can place them closer and cool them easier than 2 - 600 watters....

Anything U do push ur wattage/sq.ft. as far as u can...

Yea bro my pops is a trip for sure... The scariest part is that he actually designed alot of the current crap that keeps a few nuc. energy plants rolling in the states...
So it was all the more funny as he called telling me how he had to buy visine or he had to leave the store and smoke a cig b4 he proceeded with shopping... He came back with doritoes, ice cream and spinach dip, but left for A-1 sauce and french fries with ketchup!

the 50w/ft2 is the minimum, 75w to 100w is ideal. but this isn't a very good measurement for light coverage. this is assuming your getting 100 lumens/watt, which you only get with HPS [about 104 lm/w]. MH only gets about 95 lm/w. a much better rule is 7,500-10,000 lumens/ft2, with 5,000 being the minimum.

100 watt minimum/ sq.ft.

So in a 2X4 area @8 sq.ft. X 100= 800watts/sq.ft.

10,000 lumens/sq.ft.

800x104L/sq.ft=83200/8=10400L/sq.ft

LOL they both kinda add up according to this theory less im just really blazed.

Im not sure how effective this works but

for my 3x6 grow space Im going to need 900 watts and I was planning on a 1000w so perfect :D

1600 watts for a 2x4x4 box is way way way overkill. Props for trying to think outside the box and wanting to be super effective, but it's really not necessary. Let alone trying to cool 1600 watts of HPS in a 32ft^3 space.
