Topping For 2 And 4 Cola's

I've read through a ton of pages on uncle ben's topping method and i'm just not exactly sure where I need to make my cuts. I have several clones that are about 8" and have minimum of 5 node sets. Is there a plant diagram pointing each component of the plant out so I can see what's really going on here? I'm searching but no luck, any help would really be appreciated

Ok, so for 4 the 2nd true node. Quick question about the cotyledons. These are clones.. therefor do I have to worry about going up above them and making sure it's my 2nd 'true' node?

The diagram is for seedlings and is self-explanatory. The picture is of a clone that I topped a couple of days ago. Clones are already mature plants with alternating nodes. Just cut above 2 nodes that are alternating for 4 main colas. I've never topped for 2 colas, but I assume you would cut down to the 1st node. Someone may correct me if I'm wrong on that. Cheers

cheers man thats helped me.. 1 more ? how soon can i start topping? should i have a certain amount of nodes before topping for 4 main colas? i mean if if only had 6 nodes cutting it that soon will it cause unwanted stress? i wanna try this method but wanna know whats best// cheers.. and where can i find the uncle bens bit plz?

Uncle Ben waits for 4-5 nodes, then cuts.

True for seedlings. Is that also the case with clones? I hadn't seen that in the thread and I read like 60 some pages. Not sure why waiting for 4-5 nodes would be necessary if the clone is established and comes from a mature plant with alternating nodes.

One of my plants topped itself. Looks like it was after the 3rd node. It's got 4 huge branches coming up and the top is turning into another pair growing up. Wonder if that will affect yield. Should I cut off the 5/6 cola node before it wastes more energy growing?

He said it on like the 2nd or 3rd page if I recall... it's in there though. But nothing specifically about clones that I can recall...

The reason he gave was to be sure the root system was well established. I've never grown from clone before but can I assume root development is more or less about the same for seeds and clones?

The reaction in UB's thread to that, naturally, was "OMG why cut off so much??!" to which he responded it didn't matter too much if at all, the new tops react to the cut immediately and the plant keeps on truckin'.

Ya, I know it's the case for seedlings ... and it makes sense for seedlings. Clones are a different matter ... they are cuttings from a mature plant, so it doesn't necessarily apply. If the clone is established with good root development, you can top it without waiting for the 4-5 nodes. And I said established ... not a brand new clone just cut from the donor. A rooted, vigorous clone.
