Top up hydroton with perlite?

Hiya
Have a bubble bucket going, very early days. As you can see the rapid rooter is sitting a bit proud. I have some perlite knocking about and was wondering if i could top up the netpot with perlite. It would absorb the water and keep the top of tthe netpot moist and give more support to the stem.
I cant see any real problems. What do you think?

keep it just like it is. dry on top, wet on the bottom.

no problem.

if you have any panda film (black/white poly), cut yourself a circle with a hole in the center and a slit and cover up the netpot and hydrton. it will make sure you dont' have any light peeking thru any cracks into the res.

i only top water until the roots hit the water in the res. after that stop it so it forces the roots to grow down.

Ok great, first root appeared out of netpot this morning so I'll do as you say, thanks!
