You can take the top off but this will slow it down some. It doesn't look like you have too many choices since LST is out of the question.

3 weeks is pushing it a little but I still would top it. I tested mine out and the ones I toped yielded the same amount as the untoped ones

dont want to jack the thread but i have a similar problem, my plants are about 3 weeks in as well. the light is not the problem i have a 10 foot ceiling. the problem is my bulb started losing lumens which caused them to stretch a crazy amount making them too big for their containers. bulb is replaced. they are now over 7 foot tall and the small flowers on the main cola are very tiny and fluffy while the lower half of the plant has compact buds that are fattening up nice. is it possible the plant is having trouble getting fluids to the top? I am really considering taking off the top 2 feet and getting the bottom half of the plants closer to the light since they seem to be doing much better.

what are you thoughts?
once again not trying to jack thread it just seemed the original poster was all squared away.
thank you

damn thats way to tall. I geuss the only choice you really have would be to top them to like 4 feet tall I wouldnt really worry about losing weight cause a 7 foot plant wont yield shit anyways indoor. How the fuck did you get a plant 7 feet tall lol must be a sativa

i had a rock lock plant that got up to 9 foot in my closet i should have topped it but i just let the one go. i got almost three ozs dry from it but any haze plant are going to be tall. so you have nothing to worry about

i'll get pics in a while, i flowered at around 2 feet they have hit 7 foot in just 3 weeks of flowering. the problem was my bulb which i stated earlier and that problem has been fixed. 1 plant is doing fantastic the others are struggling with the top half of the plant. the problem is i cant fit them through the door to get pics so i'll have to take them in the very crowded grow area. the strain is shiva shanti 2 which is supposed to be indica dominant but I got 2 pheno's 1 looks indica and 1 sativa but both are really tall.

i flowered at around 2 feet.
And there is your problem... Strains that grow tall should be trained and it sounds to me like stretch was a real issue! Control stretch with your temps and lights. If a plant gets to close to the light it will start stretching out of control. Obvious night/day temps have a lot to do with strech the first couple weeks after you go 12/12...

wow!!!!
I have dp plants & started flowering at about 2 1/2 feet tall. Dp is a tall strain! I'm only in my first week of flowering(3rd day). I gues mine will shoot up like yours did. I'm using a 400 watt hps. What kind of light are you using??

Its late for a lot of things being three weeks in. I wouldn't top it, rather might try Bushmaster. i used Bushmaster in the 2nd week will great results.

This is true for the first few weeks after your lights go 12/12... what is called "the stretch". I never count the first week after the lights go 12/12 as "week 1" of flowering. This 1st week does not count, think of it more as the "Transition" week. These few weeks are where your plants will often stretch. When your day temps and your night temps differ by more than 10 degrees your plants will stretch! So if you are running 76 as a day temp with the lights on and it drops down past 65 or lower at night they will stretch. Also, going from a MH to an HPS the same time you switch to 12/12 can cause stretching. I run a MH and I flower with it as well. Before you all have a cow I will say, "Don't knock it till you have tried it peeps"... I use a 400w Hortilux Eye (Blue) and switch to a 400w SolarMax Gold MH for Weeks 5-9 of flowering. HPS bulbs will often not have enough Blue spectrum light and going from a MH right to an HPS bulb the day you go 12/12 you are asking for streching. This is all mostly important when growing strechy strains as some strains will not strech as much as others. Worst I have ever seen was the GHS Strawberry Haze.

as i already stated twice the reason for the stretch was a bad bulb producing insufficient light, i am not new to this and have grown many times before. i am aware of the stretch that happens during flowering and i was prepared for it but because of the bad bulb they stretched even more. i have done 5 foot plants before and this was my goal. had it not been for the bulb everything would be right on track. I have a day temp of 81 and a night temp of 69 under a 600 watt hps to answer those of you who asked, but i have figured out the stretch problem already all i wanted to know is if they should be trimmed down considering the containers cant support plants of this size and the top half of the plants are suffering with really slow growth while the bottom of the plants are fattening up nicely, the opposite of what should be happening.
