Too much light?

Is there a such thing of too much light for a plant? I currently have a homemade balast with 16 CFL's. (2) 42 Watt CFL's and (14) 26 Watt CFL's. I plan on replacing the 26 Watt ones with 42 Watt ones when I get the money. I have them in a 4'X4'X8' I have the heat under control. I'm just wondering if this is too much or too little? I only have 1 plant in there now, but will be adding 3-4 more soon.

Also, I do not want to paint the walls white, where can I find Mylar? I been to Home Depot and Menards and can't find it. Any advice?

Wow. I think thats plenty for one plant, but the space is kinda large if you are planning to use the whole thing.

You can use white paint, nothing wrong with that, not much of a difference compared to the mylar.

Your not gonna be using too much light with cfls so dont worry. You could use to much light with an hid if the plants are new seedlings. Why all the cfls for less money you could have gotten a 400 watt light and used close tro same watts and gotten a 100% more buds and yield??

Instead of mylar try finding gift/present wrap that is polywrap. One side is silver it cheaper then mylar and works the same.

I am still thinking about getting a 400watt hps over the 42 watt cfl's. But I am just wondering if this amount of light will be good for right now. Maybe 5 plants max.

I am going to go see if I can find some polywrap today...

Trust us, if you have a choice to use HPS, go HPS. Dont hesitate.

agreed not knocking cfl's they will grow some decent plants...HPS on the other hand grows some serious BUDs.

LMAO!!! yeah dude, that is plenty for one plant, even though they are weak lights make sure it dont get too hot. And you will get better results with metal halide lights during the vegative stage and hps lights when you want them to bud. And if you dont wonna paint your room white and you are only growing 5 or 6 plants then you can prolly make something creative out of alumninum foil and cardboard to build walls around it, i did it and it reflects light like there is no tomorrow. But thats if you only got a few plants. Its different if your growing 20 plants. but it works good so do it if you want.

NExt grow ill use all my cfls as side lighting and 600w hps for flower cant wait. go with hps Peace

yea man get a 400W HPS... fuck the CFLs your spending way more on CFLs than you would with an HPS... and imagine when they all die!!! your going to have to replace them all and spend all that money again!!!
