Tinctures vs Canna Oil for edible gummys

Hello All! Hope everyone is well during these weird times.

Since I have a little more time on my hands, I've been experimenting with creating different edibles.
I've been looking for a good gummy bear recipe online. I keep seeing that you can use various ways that include tinctures and canna oil.
I would like to know which would be the most potent to use? If yall know a strong, potent recipe, please drop it below! Thanks in advance.

I don’t have a recipe readily available but I’ve preferred to make my candy edibles with alcohol tinctures. Adding the tincture to the hot candy evaporates the alcohol and leaves the cannabis oils in the sugar.

From what I found most normal gummy recipes don’t call for oil or butter, only cannabis recipes. So using the tincture method seemed the most simple and natural to me. I usually made my own “tincture” too. By using a set amount of an extract and dissolving it in just enough alcohol to get it to dissolve(maybe a tbsp) you can roughly estimate a dosage based on how many candies you make.

Thank you for the advice! I bought some mason jars and some 80 proof vodka. Wish me luck!

80 proof vodka is not very strong: everclear or another high proof alcohol would be much better. The concentrate would dissolve better and there would be less water to evaporate out of the sugar.

I heard everclear was banned? I’m sure to try all options. I also want to try vegetable glycerin!
BTW I put the alcohol concoction in the freezer. I’m getting better buds and I’m going to try the stove top method.

Our liquor is limited to 80 proof as well I think. I just made a batch of gummies (first time) using coconut oil and it work really well. One gummie gets you pretty high for about 3-4 hrs. Yes they were a bit oily but it could have been the nonstick spray I used. Shaking them in cornstarch helped a lot.

I used a .5 cup to start but it was a bit less by the time it was finished simmering and squeezed out with 28 grams of bud. I also used guar gum to stop separation. They turned out well for first batch, easier then I thought. You have to be quick filling the moulds though, got a tad careless with the last one lol.

You really don't need nonstick spray with silicon molds. if the gummies are hard to get out at room temp, you may be doing the mixture a little wrong or something

I always make my coconut oil gummies they come out of the mold very easily because the oil in the gummies ends up preventing them from sticking~ And the silicone molds are nonstick.

Try doing a few without spray next time to reduce how oily it is!

Also~ Gelatin (knox) is much cheaper by the Lb!]

This thread has me wanting to make some tincture..
Possibly with tincture gummies it would be more important to spray the molds.. there wouldnt be any oil in there.

Hello! I made my tincture and it came out well. I attempted to make the gummies but they were more of like Jell-O shots! Can someone tell me how to make them hard?

Yes I WO t spray them again but after a few days in the freezer they are great and not at all oily. It seems you can get used to them pretty quick. I started with one and now two are nice to get pretty much fucked except for TV lol.

more geletin or proper use of the gelatin it has to get treated right to work well. also making sure the alcohol is cooked off. I don't know how strong you made the tincture, but for candy recipes I only use about 1 tablespoon of alcohol for every 1-2 grams of cannabis extract.

Ceck out diamond delight edibles on youtube. She shows how to make them both ways. How soft they are depends on the sugar temp when you cook it.

We can't buy alcohol in MA above about 100 proof; but it may be town specific; I'm pretty sure I've seen 151 around in places. But RI and CT both sell everclear. Check around. You can also try to freeze it and pour out the alcohol at a much stronger concentration; you need a very cold freezer though.

excellent point about the sugar temp, that can make a huge difference in how the candy turns out!

You can buy alcohol above 100 proof in MA cause I bought some everclear here the other day

With the epidemic I'm pretty sure places can get alcohol now because it can be used as a disinfectant

I have messed up yummy batches before doing the mixture wrong , off my head I think its 6oz jello, 1oz gelatin , 1/4 cup cannaoil , 1/2 cup water

That makes sense cooking the sugar longer changes the yummy texture thanks man

Thank you so much! It’s so crazy because I ran across her channel before and forgot that she has all the recipes. I’m trying this again this morning! I’ll update y’all with pictures.
