Tincture Help

High, I am new to making tincture and a have a few questions that i havent had answered.

First off this is what i planned on using:

ounce of good small bud and shake, and about a gram or so of kif
mason jar
everclear
and a coffee filter or maybe a good micron screen from my bubble bags for filtering

I found a cold method where they decarboxilate the material and then place it into a mason jar still warm, then freeze.(ALSO puts everclear in freezer)

take frozen bud and pour the cold everclear into the jar untill it covers the bud about an inch, shake lightly a few times then refreeze

wait 3 minutes then take it out and shake, then strain through metal strainer and some sort of filter

then you can evaporate off the alcohol

MY QUESTIONS:

which method do you feel gives the best results cold, warm, or hot method?

if i choose to do the cold method should i decarboxilate first or after i get my final product or does it even matter?

MY GOAL:
To get a recipe that fucks you up!

I would recommend a frozen extraction. Hot extracting with a polar solvent like alcohol, will extract and concentrate the chlorophyll as well.

I prefer to decarboxylate afterwards, so I can gauge the progress by watching the C02 bubbles.

First of all 3 min is not even close to getting everything. If its a tincture taken orally chlorophyll isn't a huge concern. Your main concern should be a full extraction. Second, you can't evaporate off the alcohol. Ever clear is 95% alcohol. You would be left with virtually nothing left by the time the alcohol is gone. The only reason you should be evaporating is to concentrate the dosage if you feel it is too weak. As far as ratios go I find 16oz ever clear to one ounce is the norm. If your adding Kief then just let's say your tincture will be super potent. Cold is best in my opinion. And yes if you are taking this orally you must decarbed first.

A three minute frozen definitely doesn't remove all of the resin, which is why we do it at least three times. The purpose of the multiple quick washes technique, is to extract the resin and not extract the chlorophyll and water solubles. Attached are pictures of a 3 minute soak and a 10 minute soak.

Oral chlorophyll isn't a concern to all folks, but when in concentration it not only tastes really really greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen, but it gives some folks stomach cramps, diarrhea, and nausea. That is why we make Brown Dragon tincture, rather than Green Dragon.

For precise control of the decarboxylation, we remove all of the alcohol, decarboxylate precisely, and then add back as much Everclear if we want to make a tincture. Decarboxylating it before extraction is imprecise, and alters the flavor some.

We consider a standard low tolerance dose 100 mg of concentrate, so if you diluted the oil to a 3:1 ratio for instance, it would take 300 mg to equal a standard dose.

The drop size from a dropper bottle varies by dropper size and the drop size is roughly proportional to 3X the hole size. A half ounce dropper bottle takes about three drops to equal 100 mg of our HS tincture.3 minute frozen extract.jpg10 minute frozen extraction-1-2.jpg

Do join us for tea and crumpets! The spring and summer in Portland is the most beautiful time to do so.

I apologize for the late reply but thank all who replied on the topic
Y'all provided excellent info.

Ya I mentioned evaporation because I planned on concentrating the dosage to be super potent (Thnx for the ratios kanivers)

Also fade dawg I love the idea to fully evaporate the alcohol, decarb, then add more alcohol if planning on turning it to tincture.
I'm sure the cold extraction is all I will ever do.

Twitch very interesting idea, sounds like winterizing your bho
Never hered of a speedball either

Hey roll it up
Im back with a pic of my first batch of tincture, before any evaporation or decarbing

it came out a lil greener then I wanted

I barely shook it and only left the frozen bud/alcohol mixture in the freezer for about 5 mins before straining.

I ment to do 2 runs to guarantee I got everything but I dropped my second jar on the grounds with the bud in it and pretty much ruined the bud.

Also I put about a gram of kif in after the first strain which is built up on the bottom of the jar.

I figured this was OK since I planned to fully evaporate the alcohol before decarbing, then adding more alcohol after.

Would love some constructive criticism or comments in general.

Also a quick questions

If I fully evaporated my tincture to pretty much a hash then darboxilated it could I add it to a different liquid?

Five minutes is pushing it. We use 3 minutes and pick up the rest of the resin with additional soaks.

You can add the purged oil to alcohol and cooking oils, but not to glycerin very well.

I use the freezer method but a slightly different method. I decarb first, if needed, then freeze the reefer and Everclear separately for 24 hours and then combine and shake. Only I shake for about 15 minutes then put it back in the freezer for 4 hours before another shake and strain. Then I put the strained reefer back into the freezer for another 24 hours as well as fresh alcohol separately. I then follow the exact same steps as the first run, combine, shake, back for 4 hours in the freezer, shake, strain and filter. Then you reduce your alcohol by half for a concentrated Dragon, Gold or Green. At that point, place your concentrated back in the freezer for 48 hours for winterizing. The additional soak time brings out more of those. After the spiderwebs of oils and waxes form, filter it cold through a paper filter. Because it's light colored, you may not see anything but it's there. Using dank sugar trim this gives me an 8 drop tincture. I get 20 ounces of concentrated Dragon from 2 ounces of the trim. I then use a solvent transfer process to make honey, coconut oil, topicals, candies and a bunch of other products from the Dragon tincture.

I swear by the stuff and don't know if I could live very well without it. I have a lot of spinal issues and my Dragon tinctures have enabled me to stop opiates, except for those bad times. I have a hundred plus page thread elsewhere dealing with this process and it's possibilities. I don't want to get in trouble linking it. I'll probably get it posted here soon.

Just to give you an idea of the ease. This is a picture that I took a few days ago of my current inventory of Dragon tinctures, different stains and blends. product3.jpg The large jar on the left is a fresh 2oz batch. The following picture is my final concentrated Dragon from a 7g batch. Recipe batch 7g Concentrated Green Dragon final product.jpg
