Three lighting options for veg area/room.

1) 2' T5's four lights total, 92 total watts. I already have two (hydrofarm single bulb with reflector) of these so this would be the cheapest option.

2) 4' T5 setup (hydrofarm unit or something similar), about 200 watts.

3) A 250MH or 400MH. The cost difference between these isn't very much but I 'm not sure the 250 would be a large step-up from option 2, and a little concerned about heat from the 400.

My goal is to have plants completely ready for flowering so I don't waste any time once they are moved into the other room (1200 HPS). The room is a closet 2'x4'x6'. I don't want to setup a venting system, will the either or both MH get too hot? Ok thanks, let me know what would be the best veg lighting.

i would seriously NOT put a 1200w in a space that small!!!!!!! the plants willhave NO CHANCE ul fry them, plus ulburn the house down!!
400 or 600w max will be more than enuf for that space, i would be very carefull.
u also need ventilation its a must, ur plants need sufficient air flow to grow and produce, and obviously ventilation helps keep temps at optimum level 75-80f

i would use the 250 mh for veggin deffo if the cost diff isnt much between cfl.

U GOTTA GET SOME AIR IN AIR OUT B4 EVEN THINKIN OV STARTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK.

Thanks for the response, I have another space I use for flowering. I have been using four 23w cfl's in this space and it works alright but I would like to have thicker plants before they are moved to the flower room. If anyone has experience vegging with T5 and MH of the wattages I mentioned I would like to know what you have to think. Thanks

Told u already if u want thicker plants use the 250 or even 400w mh, its rich in the blue spectrum that is ideal for veggin!!!!!!!!!!!

Also to thicken up plants try toppin or fimmin, topping makes plants grow more side branches hence more internodes hence a lot more budds!!

Ide deffo go for the mh light any1 with experience will tell u exactly the same!! Good luck

Yeah I top and I would like to use the MH for the reasons you mention but I would hate to get it setup and find out that I need an exhaust system.

U should even be using a exhaust with cfl, not for hot air but to promote air flow, i kno for certain u will need an exhaust if ur gunna use the mh they produce a lot of heat wich needs to be removed from ur grow space!! Peace out
