THOUGHTS ON THIS SOIL RECIPE? Help please

1 2.0 cubic foot bag of Happy Frog soil
3 cups of General Organics Ancient Forest Alaskan Humus
2 cups of Earthworm castings
2 tablespoons of Recharge
And some Mykos

I saw a post about this soil recipe l, I believe the person's name was " Koma". Now my question is, would I need to add anything to this mix.. Im only growing like 3 plants at a time and I'm trying to avoid using bottled nutrients. I would use RO water as well.

Should be fine.

If you use RO water you should occasionally use small doses of cal mag to make up for the lack of ca and Mg in the ro.

I would go with General Organics cal/mag+.

Hey thanks for the reply man, okay cool. Just had to check with the community lol I'll definitely pick up so cal/mag. I want to start already before the temps in Calif decide to go to literal hell

To answer your question, should you add anything more to the mix.
Perlite would be the most popular addition growers would add to increase aeration.
Some add 10% to 20% perlite.

If it was me and we all do things differently here on RIU.
I would keep the cal mag doses small, maybe in the range of a 1/4 tsp - 1/2 TSP per gallon of water.
I'd read up on what a magnesium deficiency looks like.
Calcium won't likely be a problem in veg if the plant is watered properly.
If a magnesium deficiency starts to develop in the lower fan leaves it can be dealt with quickly with a tsp per gallon of epsom salt added to the water.

If your planning on using dry amendments to feed the microbes the worm casting you have are a great thing to top dress with.

You would not need to top dress until about the 3rd or 4th week.

If I had to top dress I would probably go with EWC, kelp meal and crab meal.
EWC and kelp meal are a popular choice when top dressing with 3 dry fertilizers, the third depends on the plant and the situation.

Might be one of a variety of balanced fertilizers.
I often use FF Marine cuisine 10-7-7 or DTE Bio Live 5-4-2 or FF Happy Frog 6-4-4, some growers do great with tomato tone from home depot.
Depends on the plant, takes a lot of time to get it dialed in.

Perfect, that's really good info brotha. When you say top dress the 3rd or 4th week, would that be during the bloom phase?

Half pro mix , quarter coir and quarter perlite.
3Tbs when I flip of flowergirl and 4 weeks in three more .

3 or 4 weeks is how long I would probably go water only before top dressing a soil in most cases.

It would depend on the style of the grow.

Let's say a person was growing an auto and started the plant in its final pot.
In that case I would go water only with a light cal/mag supplement if using RO for about 3 or 4 weeks before top dressing.

If I start a plant in a solo cup then transplant to 1 gallon then 5 gallon things would be different but once I got to the 5 gallon pot I'd probably top dress 3 or 4 weeks from when it was transplanted.

For me this 1st top dressing can be in veg or early flower and different strains have different needs.

It's not easy to explain because there is always something that will create a change of plans.

My signature below has a grow that shows the fertilizers I used through an entire grow from seed to harvest on 3 pages. Note that the soil I use was my own mix and I tend to start with lighter mixes than most growers. So far I found I can add what I need after I test the soil out with a couple of plants. It's easier to fix a deficiency in a soil than it is to fix a toxicity.

Im actually doing a sponsored grow. Im using Black Gold and a dry amendment called Earth Dust from the green sunshine company.

Could I put gypsum in the soil, to add cal/mag?

I agree with @Kushash, i wouldn't double tap with gypsum and Cal Mag. I would use one or the other, better to go light then go heavy with something. If you go heavy you might wind up killing your plant. Of course if you go light you can always adjust upward.

I have a bottle of cal/mag + on hand but don't really ever use it. Might be used on a rare occasion.

I use a combination of RO and high ppm tap water that has a fair amount of Ca and Mg already in it. I mix the RO and tap to about 180ppms on a 500 ppm scale meter these days. About 1 part tap 3 parts RO. All depends on the tap water a person has. Mine is pretty good collecting all sorts of good things from the Rocky Mountains and Colorado River.

I use Epsom salt occasionally for Mg that's it.

I'd use the tap water but Where I live in California, but I don't trust it one bit lol I'll stick to adding a little bit from the bottle.

Side thought: I was looking at organic grows and found something called "Cover Crops" I was mainly looking at adding clover to the top layer of soil

Day 50 of grow day 9 earth dust

Im in nor cal, i get my water from fridge filter..lol ive never heard of cover crops. Ill look it up and check it out.
