This ovule (not seed) thing needs explained by an experienced grower please

The majority of them do. The dealer growers won't acknowledge it as long as their bud still sells and nobody else knows what to do either. I think it's those cheap LEDs. I might try an expensive set, or maybe halogen lights?
Maybe mine aren't "cheap" then. I've been running COBS since early 2017 and QB style for over a year with no issue.

have noticed in recent years that many strains I’ve grown have a penhead sIzed ball inside each and every calyx. It starts as green and turns brown as plant matures. These are not seeds and never grow in size. They are present inside the very first calyxes and inside every single calyx from the beginning of flower on. After much research and really having to dig for information, I came to the realization that these are ovules from which the pistils protrude. Bust open a calyx and inside will be a tiny ball with the hairs coming out. The bud I grow is top notch potency but these ovules do crackle a bit . This is not just noticeable by me. I’m wonderin* if anyone’s knows the cause for these bigger than normal ovules or if there is a strain you can recommend that will not have such big ovules. I’m tired of the crackling and having to explain to those who notice. Not everyone notices. I just want to get back to smoking “regular “ bud that doesn’t have the bigger ovules. I’ve come to the conclusion that this is a problem that is starting to show itself more and more in recent years with others as well. What is going on with the genetics that is causing this? I need a strain to not do this. Any input or help would be awesome as this has been driving me insane. I thought I had a nonstop hidden nanner issue for crop after crop after crop but these are most definitely not seeds. No signs of pollination. Calyx don’t get early swell or early red pistils. Never the stripe on center of calyx. Ovules. Damn ovules
I’ve got the same problem and can’t seem to understand why? I am growing from clones but different clones and they all have the same problem. Thousands of micro seed like ovules in my buds. I feel it defs affects potency and taste and smell of the bud. I don’t have crackles but they are there. Now I know for a fact that bud that I purchase does not have these as visibly nor tastably- if that’s a word. But yeah I’d really appreciate some insight as I can’t pin point the issue. It’s my third grow now and I’ve still not nailed the problem. What could cause this?! Definitely not hermie nor pollenation buzz.

I can’t find the thread but Subcooll was saying how feminized plants produce micro seeds, and by this, I believe he means the large ovules that crackle. I’ve heard others call them microseeds. He will not make fem seeds. It may just be the fems mostly. Something in their genetics telling them something didn’t go normal with pollination in their past. Ovules enlarge because of this to be more fertil for whatever reason. I’m sure someone could make it sound good. I have a sneaking suspicion this could be a reason
I’ve grown a regular seeds and doing this. I do suspect it’s something environmental rather than genetic.

i have grow 14 fem strains so far and i dont have this problem. i have seen this before fems were really even available though on street bud.

i think i only got this on weed that had huge bracts. there are layers/shells. in fact, i was listening to i think breeder syndacate and the guy from Archive mentioned this bracht size being an issue as preferences have changed over the years. you can breed for or away from this. i have had herms that i could not see. a late stage, week 7 herm on a 9 week strain might could give this?

i have had bud many times that was seeded with barely mature seeds and it sucks to deal with. i wonder if this is something like that. i know quite a few people that even found full seeds in bud they swear never hermed....me too. if there is some correlation with fems, perhaps it does relate to them herming rather than being a gene. i can't tell how bad the smoke it....i never notice the smoke being bad from large brachts with layers. if there was something solid or hard inside that to me is a seed.

I’m running only one strain - exodus cheese. The guy I got it from says she run fine and doesn’t experience these ovules. They definitely not seeds. Or hermied. It’s legit ovules but something is making them enlarged….

Legit cut or a s1 ? ive heard others say the cheese can produce em if stressed to fuck but it dont proper herm it can be reversed apparently tho too but ive never encountered ovules in legit cheese myself only certain seedbank versions over the years

Thank you for this post, saved me some stress on my current grow. I thought I had hermie pollinated my room by accident around day 35 bloom... Turns out her ovules are just protruding. She's about to pack on some weight... I'm guessing the ovules will get grown over in late flower. I cut open a few solid nugs, but no seeds.

Any solution to less protrusion of ovules? I’ve given the same cut that I have these problems with to a mate of mine and he had pleasant results. No large ovules. So I’m defs suspecting environment.

The plant I’m growing is in a 5 gallon container, being fed high quality organic nutrients with Tribus Continuum. Nothing cheap is going into her feed. So she’s getting plenty of nutrients, and none in excess. I noticed the Ovules showing themselves when I hit a dryback. I let her pot get dry, about 25% humidity in the pot of soil. The room she’s in is 50% humidity. She’s under 600 watts. My best guess is that it’s a stress response.

Older thread but figured I’d chime in. I’ve done 3 side by side Grow’s using a 600w photontek and a 330w cmh. Did it just to see the difference in bud structure and quality. And every plant grown under the LED had these hard brown ovules. None of the plants grown under the chm lighting had them. I think the led lighting stresses the plant out and it kinda goes haywire lol

I've never used LEDs but I have had this happen with a handful of plants over the years under hps. In my case they were all feminized seeds that it happened with.

Interesting ive never managed it with hps i have seen others using em manage to bleach em and shit but ive seen it more with these newer led lights with newby growers running it 100% from what i heard you dont run em full power dont get me wrong i had stuff go brown genetically but thats not burned thats just the way some weed is once its ready/cured or gold like the kinda goldish phenos you get in old skunk1 for example i still run hps myself

It is environment/stress mostly that causes this

Funny thing about this thread
People report having the same thing happen and only lighting/genetic variables.

It would help alot to discuss every variable-- light hum temp nutrients genetic medium and watering

Cannabis is bound by the law of pollen-tube dependent ovule enlargement morphology (POEM). It must be PGRs in your nutes.

Main developmental pathways of natural apomixis in flowering plants. Meiotic developmental pathways (c,e) and biparental seed development (d,e) (green gametophytes, embryo, and endosperm tissues); apomictic developmental pathways (a,b,d) and maternal seed development (a–c,e) (yellow gametophytes and endosperm tissue, red egg-cell and embryo tissue); blue seed embryo is derived from a fertilized unreduced egg-cell. MMC, megaspore mother cell; MC, megaspore; NC, nucellus cell; BIII hybrid, offspring produced by fertilization of unreduced egg cells. Size of nuclei corresponds to relative ploidy level.

I started reporting this to everyone i knew in 2012 on the ACD forum, under the title "wierd hermied bud in uk", posted picks of ovules and the buds on the next page, the bud was all FIRE, but i noticed these in some chronic, like the strain the chronic, back in mid 2012, and have never had bud without them since. Cali, Uk, Dutch, Spanish, in those countries (not cali), and imported, all of it, ALL coffeeshop weed, ALL packs, ALL homegrown, whether they're little or not, its bin in EVERYTHING. NOBODY has been able to show me ANY bud, without them, if i see u in person, i'll wreck ur smoking life, bcoz ur just not noticing, not looking correctly, or r a liar.
