This dude says Vero 18s give you more bang for Buck/Loonie than Vero 29s

He said you can buy Vero 18s for a lot cheaper and you can run almost double the number of Vero 18s versus Vero 29s. The video is about 6 months old. He is saying 10 Vero 18s on a 240 watt Meanwell driver. I wonder if that can match 1000 watt HPS.

I think he is in Canada so I think they use DC electricty up there.

Does anyone even sell Vero 18s anymore?

I built my first COB veg light with a combination of Vero 18s and 13s, and its working just fine.
I'm the sorta guy who isn't caught up in needing the absolute newest/ greatest equipment. If a piece of gear is one or two generations behind, the upfront cost is substantially lower in some cases, and it can still achieve the desired results. I stopped splitting hairs over MAX efficiency/ output. A couple KWH per month is negligible IMO......

any cob rig can match 1000W HPS if you use enough. at vero18s max current it is 84W so 10 of them would be 840W and would be pretty similar to an HPS

Shit or get off the pot. Which is it? Just get a bunch of citizens and be done.

I'm not sure making a hundred threads over it will help. You know what you need to know.
kinda this. we keep seeing the same exact questions every week. get growing! ;)

They're good chips but can't provide at any current the efficiency of Vero 29 at low current, at least according to Bridgelux. They are cheap, but I would recommend running them at nominal or less. At max current the efficiency will be well under DE HPS. They will fit spaces DE bulbs won't, but I would personally go for Vero 29C or other higher efficiency chips on a new build. I have an old Vero 18 based lamp. If I were to update it I would probably slap some new Vero 18s in there, easy switch out and cheap.

Don't....I started that way and hindsight says not again.....
Cobs are great and I still think this is a great way to start.....

I still even have my first Veros 10/13/18s and 29s....they are pushing 4+ years and still crank solid....thinking about turning them into floodlights or boatlights, something they wont die :)

The old 29s are beasts my friend and the new ones are no exception. I have switched over to same companies strips and like anything else, its takes a bit to dial in.

You are spoiled but not of your own fault, I would still run all my cobs, but instead of upgrading with more cobs, I went strips because I already had loads and loads of flat really good aluminum....

Eventually I will go back to passive sinks and some V29 C's....and probably some of them new Meat chips the 1750K....:peace:

so the strips arent doing whats expected?
not at all...its more the style of growing than the source but after a few runs, the fuzzies will clear a bit....but my goals are different than most.... i am attempting to select a few males from some fast finishing hybrids for outdoor stock in 2018....i am looking for september finishers ....going to do that all under strips entirely..pheno hunting and then some open pollination....leftovers will go towards rosin...so weight isnt really an issue for e next few moknths...that will come after seeing a few different phenos ...:peace:

I run 415 -420 watts in Vero 18 s in a 3x3 and grow some formidable beasts that way.
Beats the he'll out of blurple if your on a budget, at 9 bucks a puck.
Ill upgrade to the new 29 s with the same drivers and get a better yield though.
18 s are good if your still dialing in you're medium and nutes. And can be retired to veg or supplemental when you hit the big leagues.
Ill take my 18 s over a vipar spectra or whatever any day. Great starter cob.

Good hunting!

Instead of the Vero 18, you can save even more money if you use the V18 array series. Same specs as Vero 18 but cheaper.

Citizens are probably a better deal and strips may be a better idea still, but at least the V18 and Vero 18 are available in Canada.
