I love playing breaking bad,
I like to think of myself as a late in life nerd.
I’m always studying something and I got no test. The danger part of it makes it more exciting.
This is where it lost me.
I have no problem building the unit , but then where do I store it? ( could keep it at a friends place) It’s going to take up lots of space. Now to add up my expenses, now what does someone charge a gram for this ? Now after it’s built , I got to put on a smile n add value to the product telling everyone it’s the best , and I want 150$ a g ?
Now I’m going to have to give samples etc .
Not worth it to me .
When people don’t want to pay 10 a point for full melt bubble? Or 50 a g for really good hash? Seems everyone around here wants shatter for 40 a g .
Can’t see them paying more for a new oil.
Yeah no interest here in making it for profit. I'm just interested in personal edible materials, too many chems in this for my liking. Good point too, a lot of materials to store. The shit we do to get high ;)

Interesting but between all the chems and dangers in processing, I'll stick to my sift for my edibles, way cleaner and no blowing myself up
I blow up real good! Actually I distill solvents in my home made still and even distill butane with a couple of flat bottom boiling balls and some copper tubing that goes in my deep freezer for cooling it back to liquid so it can be reused right away. Get a lot more pot processed out of a few cans of 9x filtered 'tane that way.

I worked as a chemist in a hazardous waste disposal facility for a couple years and have had extensive training in the safe handling of commercial volumes of all sorts of nasty stuff so haven't had a fire or explosion with any of my projects. knockwood.gif

Could you post some pics of your tane still?
I distillate iso, I’d like to see a homemade butane still.

Sounds like you have some background and training, always safer with this kind of processing. I used to run BHO with my outdoor trim until about 5 years ago. But I was in the country and outside in a gazebo with screening so worst case scenario it was blowing up outside. No plans to build a lab inside the house, too much risk and I doubt my insurance would cover it ;)

I worked in a lot of heavy industrial jobs from an early age for many years. Went back to school in my early 30s and got a diploma in environmental chemistry good for 2 years uni credit had I wanted to further my education. With a young family tried to get into something decent but worked at the hazmat place for a couple years until I got fed up with the Iranian management and quit. They were trying to oust me for organizing union status for us techs and after I refused to become a supervisor they really put the pressure on. I had been shop steward in a few factories before and like in here was very vocal and often rubbed people the wrong way. I like to wave my freak flag high! :)

I make sure I have lots of ventilation and take anti-static precautions to prevent sparks. I also have a few fire extinguishers I keep handy and use appropriate PPE for what I'm doing. If I'm making EverClear there's no sampling until the still is off and cooling down. No smoking goes without saying.

To just do an evap I set up my hotplate and pie plate on the tailgate of the pickup in our open carport and just keep adding more as the volume goes down.

Safety first! Always.

My 'tane still is just two 1L flat-bottomed boiling balls connected with a coil of copper tubing. One ball containing the oil/tane mix sits in an ice cream pail outside the deep freeze with most of the copper tubing inside the freezer leading to the 2nd ball sitting on the bottom. No heat is needed to boil it off as long as the mud room temp is over +5C as butane boils at -0.5C. A few boiling chips in teh bottom and a lab thermometer to keep an eye on the temp and it boils away nicely. Everything including the pot, butane and glassware has been kept in the freezer for a day prior to operation. I drilled out a cap so the tip of the butane can fits in nicely to shoot liquid butane into a 3rd receptacle containing the pot to be filtered into the 1st boiling ball.

I lost all the pics in a hard drive crash but one of the 1st boiling ball after the butane is gone.
