What up Cali?? I'm currently a mi medical patient looking to relocate possibly to the mendo area. My questions are how is the job market? What's the average price for a 2-3 bed house with property or a large yard? I would need to get my med card immediately, so are there docs that take walk-ins? I have my paperwork/current card. As far as experience Im currently a CNC machinist, as well as an experienced auto mechanic, i am a pretty handy guy an have had many jobs fixing/ repairing all types of shit. I have a few relatives out there that I could stay with till on my feet. Any help/ advise would be awesome!!!

My friend graduated from college /w a 3.6 GPA about 2 years ago. She spams resumes all over town. The best job she can find is making coffee @ 5am for minimum wage.

It's kinda like that....

OP, hang a shingle.

The US auto industry is still down some 5 million sales annually from 2007's peak, mostly because people are out of money and fixing what they have instead of buying new.

My local mechanic is absolutely swamped. Took him five days out to schedule back to back oil changes.

I am nowhere near California (except in my heart) so take my words FWIW.

You should move to the LA area. Alot more jobs here than anywhere else in the state. U do CNC?? Theres a ton of places in the southbay always hiring machinists. And doctors offices down here do accept walkins. Not to mention the LAPD no longer wastes resources on small pot busts..

What's it like for a 2-3 bed house with a yard?(rent or payment) Enough room to possibly do an outdoor in the summer, to keep me an my fiancé medicated nothing more.

Don't come to Cali.
Terrible. Just terrible. I tell everyone that Cali is the land of opportunity. You have no skills? No education? Physically attractive? Then you can be rich. Grow good weed? You can be rich. Good athlete? Rich. Cali, specifically LA is full of opportunities that you cant find anywhere else except for maybe chicago or New York.

California is the shit dude. Why do you think we all have it tattooed on us? Want to have freedom to toke as much as you want? Come to Cali. You want to come somewhere thats not segregated like out east, come to Cali. Like I said, all these manufacturing spots in the Southbay hire CNC dudes.

OP, I strongly suggest you don't listen to Kaendar's advice...

I've lived in California my entire life, the job market is absolute shit. My sister (20) can't get a job in anything other than sales, she currently works for Ross at just above minimum wage and has applied elsewhere, but nothing in at least a year. The cost of living is absurd, a single room, not even a house or appt. will cost you at least $900-$1,000/month. Add the cost of food ($100), utilities ($200), and you're looking at at least $1,300/month JUST TO PAY BILLS.

I've been considering moving out of CA for a year, it's simply unlivable for your average person. In my mind, I've never had a job where I can successfully support myself living in California. Every single job I've ever had here has limited me to living with someone else. It's impossible to live on your own without a college degree here. If you have a wife or a gf with some kind of skill, you might make it. But if not, it will be a risk. The weed situation is just like anywhere else, it may not be as big, but I've been to other states, really, no difference in the weed culture, the only difference is how well you hide it. Cops are the same, in regards to weed, here as they are anywhere else. If a cop stops you with weed, you're going to get a ticket, that's it. Maybe you'd go to jail in other states, but it's not a 'slap on the wrist' like most people would have you believe, I've spent hundreds of dollars fixing weed fines I've been given (even spent 2 days in jail)..

It's expensive, there are a million fuckin' people, it's hot and dry. There are beautiful people left and right, (dumb as goddamn bricks though), and great food anywhere you go, but to enjoy it, you've pretty much gotta be upper-middle/upper class...

Well yea Cali sucks if you work a traditional job. All im trying to say is that if you have a craft or a trade this is the spot to be. Im a tattoo artist for instance. I work when I want, for how much I want, and I enjoy doing it at the same time. I could move and pay less for rent and shit, but CA is huge in the tattoo industry right now. Same thing for the entertainment industry or the cannabis industry.

I'm going to be completely honest with you bro....fuck everyone that's telling you not to move here. These people have been stuck here their entire lives and never had the opportunity to find a decent job so they think the grass is greener on the other side. I'm sorry but no matter where you live if you don't have enough ambition and drive to go out there and make good money....you never will...whether you are here, NYC, Chicago or any other major city.

I've lived here for about 3 months....in the shittiest part of California....and I'm having a blast man. If you can't find a job....create your own...start fixing peoples cars...open a shop...whatever.

I'll tell you not to move here as well, but I will be honest about why. I am a California native. Born here in 71, lived here my whole life all over So Cal. We natives don't want you all to move here because there are too damn many people here already. In addition, no one likes it when people move to their home and then start bad mouthing it. Most outa staters do it, but New Yorkers are the worst. I can't count how many I have to to go back to NY if we suck so much. None of them do, though.

And yes, it can be more expensive to live here than some other parts of the country. Unfortunately as was said, if you really want to enjoy So Cal you need to be at least middle middle class. My wife and I have the most fun when our combined incomes get above 80K. IMO if you can't make at least 40K a year, don't move to So Cal. All you'll do is work and lament the high cost of everything. (And you'll be stuck living in the hot parts.)

Phishtank, you aren't anywhere near the shittiest part of Cal. You're definitely in red neck-ville, but try out the central valley, or Blythe, or even Barstow. Now that's shit. :-)

Currently the job market is shit. But one of the benefits to living in a big city or a major metropolis is that there are more opportunities to make your own job, than in a small town. Shit, if you have a pick up truck you can start your own pool boy service and kinda get by. This is where Phish is right... if you don't have ambition or drive, you're not going to make it anywhere.

And one last thing... if you're any kind of bigot you'll hate it here. EVERYONE lives here... all nationalities, gay, straight, freaky deakies, rednecks, cholos, academics... freaking everyone! So you have to learn to work with anyone and be neighbors with anyone.

Hope it helps, and I selfishly hope you don't move here. But if you do, good luck.

I think everyone telling me not to move is fucking retarded!!! I live there 2 years ago an had more fun an made more money than i do now. I have a trade an MANY OTHER SKILLS to back it up. Yes the cost of living is high but it's high anywhere you go, so unless you can physically change something there's no point in bitching!!! IF I decide to move it will be to northern Cali, socal is to much town for me I'm a country person. I've been looking at houses an some are a pretty nice deal to BUY rent on the other hand blows. Im still on the fence cause of job situation but I managed 2 yrs ago GREAT, so I think I'd be fine. If you guys know of any places in north Cali for sale please send me a link I would be happy to help someone on here or a friend of a friend if I can.

I've been wanting to move to the west coast for a long time now. Either Northern California or maybe Oregon. Just not sure how to go about it since I don't know anyone out there.
