My space would be 2x4x5 ft so 40 sq.ft. Think this fan might be overkill? humidity 0? Temps where im at get hot.. outside can get to like 105-110F degrees in the dead heat of the summer. Its like 75F right now so im not too worried. Is the Vortex 6" relatively quiet? its rated at 49 DBA and according to that its "quiet restaurant talk" which means nothing to me lol

I have had this model for 2 years now working constantly. It is not very quite and you can hear it when it is on full blast. I have a RPM controller on it but I would reccommend enclosing it to keep noise to a minimum. As far and dependability I rate it a 10. Plus it has a 5 year warranty.

Its a powerfull fan. I have the same one to cool my 600 watt HPS. Its not quiet at all and I can hear it running 2 rooms away from inside my closet.

-I was thinking about:
-Getting a variable speed fan controller

-wrap the fan in a bag

-put on insulated ducting and adding a maybe 6" to 8" conversion so there is a bigger hole on the intake

-making a box around the fan

-filling the box with foam (great stuff or egg crate)

-put a carbon scrubber *DIY* on the end

Do you think that will damper the noise enough? to say keep it in one room if it was in my closet?

All good ideas, that should do it. It is loud but nothing that can't be dampened with some of the things on your list.

I'd go with a generic one..vortex's are cool but why not get a generic one and save a hundred bucks..449cfm is 449 cfm whatever brand you get pm me if you want to know where to get a 449cfm for like 90 bucks, probably less

Well my box size is only like 40 square feet and I saw a deal for a Can fan brand RS4 (inline 4") for 60$ on craigslist so I decided to get that. Im pretty sure if I wanted to I could turn that into a quick 30-40$ profit on ebay but im actually going to use it, I got lucky I guess. Its 175 or 185 cfms cant remember and its pretty quiet. No louder than my 50 CFM fan that I was using before which was rated at like 3 sones. I havent put anything on it to dampen the sound other than like a 2' dryer duct which has no insulation. You can hear it while in the room, sounds like a bathroom fan is on in the room next to you, you can only really hear the light humming. Temp already went down like 15 degrees, all I really want is it to be around 90 rather than 98 and it did the job so maybe my shit will start actually growing.
