"Cannabis use leads to schizophrenia.." I thought this would actually be an informative program. Seems it's just another scare tactic to frighten the public.

How could they possibly prove this when there hasn't been a significant study for a long enough period of time anywhere in the US? That is complete bullshit and I'm plain sick of all of these assholes and their retoric. There is no proof behind any of their allogations about marijuana. They also say that cooking with tin-foil can cause alzheimers. Are they going to get doctors on there to stop people from buying tin-foil? I'm sick of this. I'm buckling down and starting to write my letters tonight.

You did and thanks for that :D

The first doc was a "Nature of Things" with David Suzuki and primarily focused on three individuals who smoked pot in their teens and "as a result, developed schizophrenia." Later in the program they acknowledged that all three people had genetic tendencies and a family history of this horrible disease. They also mentioned supposed parts of DNA called 'MET' and 'VAL'. People with this 'MET' coded into their DNA were not susceptable to developing schizophrenia when ingesting cannabis. People with the 'VAL' in their DNA were 5 times more susceptible to develop Schizophrenia. And people with both in their DNA were twice as likely to develop schizophrenia when ingesting cannabis. (what?) I am confused as you are. Who knows if there is ANY truth in it, but surely Cannabis is yet again being used as the poster child in the war on drugs. Just another 'example' of how horrible this natural plant is.

The second doc focused on the MJ trade in BC mostly. Introduced was the marijuana activist mayor of Grand Forks BC who grows, a few underground grow operators and a few medical marijuana cultivators. There was also a BC cop who brought the documenters with him a outdoor grow op bust. He openly admitted that prohibition was, in large, the cause of criminal activities associated with weed. And really it is.

Look at alcohol prohibition. Who rose to power during this time? Al capone, Lucky Luciano; all people who saw an oppertunity to profit from an illegal substance and organized operations that encouraged violence to meet their goals. Exactly what has happened with our modern day prohibition. One thing that was very lightly touched upon was the medical benefits. It was seriously lacking.

One great documentary which explores all facets of cannabis is a movie called "The Union". Although one of it's main focus is the BC trade as well, many points of view are explored, including the medical use of cannabis. One scene, which brought me to tears, was where a man with MS is being interviewed before he took his meds. He could barely speak or control his body movement due to intense muscular spasms. The next was during and after he took a hit off of his pipe. The result was staggering. He was now calm and relaxed, easily forming sentences with little effort. An incredible transformation. I recommend you all watch it. Very informative.

Sorry to go on so long, I just wanted to let you know of the status of our movement according to our Canadian mass media: It's still regarded to as the 'Boogie Man'. What a surprise.
