Let's talk about florescents. I know a fella who just loves his floro pot and prefers it over outdoor or HID pot. I started under florescents and have flowered under them. Look, yield isn't anywhere near HIDS, but not everyones a yield chaser. I've found floro bud to be extremely pure and tasty. High trichome to leaf ratio with a very lime green look. Have you guys ever flowered and smoked floro bud?

I don't think you understand what I'm asking. The question is, is it better to make seed by selfing, or is it better to back cross using another male of different genetics? Your end goal is to make seed that grows like the clone you want to recreate.
If you cross your prized clone with a male of different genetics you are creating new genetics. It could possibly produce a phenotype that is similar to the clone you want reproduced but you will need to run several seeds to find the mother you want. The result would be an F1 hybrid of your clone and the male you pollenate her with. It would NOT be a back cross because that requires the SAME genetics. You are introducing new genetics into your original clone.
If you self seed the plants you may come up with herms or mutants but you may strike gold. I have not tried it myself but I would assume that your herms won't show up until mid bloom and cause headaches in the garden. I have a dozen "Plush Berry" seeds that came from a purple pheno that seeded itself but I am very hesitant to run them. They are the color of elderberries and are very intriguing.
I have no experience in this next area but I have read Ed's chapter AND I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night so I should be an expert!
Sub seems to be against this idea completely and I understand his reasons. I cannot agree or disagree. I am just sharing what I know.
IF you truly want a clone only strain in seed form this is what I would attempt...
There is a spray called gibberellic acid GA3. If you spray it on a female clone it will cause her to produce male flowers when you bloom her/him. The male flowers will produce pollen. Get that pollen on a female in bloom and you will have your original clone in seed from! (That's the super simplified description!) Now you gotta pop a few seeds let em grow until you can take clones from them. LABEL THE MOMS AND THE CLONES VERY CAREFULLY so you can recall which plant the clones came from! Bloom the new mom plants and keep an eye out for males. If you don't want the males toss the blooming plant AND the clones unless you plan to breed or back cross with them. Keep every plant labeled clearly because at smoke time we are gonna pick which seed was a the closest representation of the original clone and keep her for more crops and more fun! If the seeds produced from the "reversed" male and original female are not close enough to the original you will now get to Back Cross! The only way to find a good male plant is to cross him out with other females. Find a good mother and a great father and start crossing generations and phenotypes until you get what you want. Sometimes it takes 5 crosses to make seed come out mostly identical. Sub seems to have magic plants that cross like peanut butter and jelly! Maybe its his bad ass eye for selection! Yer gonna have a ton of fun if you try this but it is a ton of work! I cannot make any claims on how safe this is or how well it works but I know a HUGE seed company who uses this method. Yer gonna have to read about breeding and learn when to pollenate and how to do it the way you like. I don't believe in hard fast rules in the garden because we are all gonna do things the way it works best for us!
I feel like Dennis Miller... I don't mean to go rant here but...
I hope all of my rambles helped you out!
If I made a mistake please correct me!
Stay Irie!

I wanted to share a little story about how I directly can relate to episode 31...

I am the definition of an "urban grower." I live downtown Seattle in a 2 bedroom condo building. I have one bedroom that has a closet for pre-veg, veg tent, and a bloom tent. (both tents are 4x4x7) NO one knows about my grow... Even my friends! It's a complete secret! I have found things are easier this way because I only grow enough to supply my girlfriend (also WA state mmj patient) and I. Living in such close coradors with your neighbors can make the simplest task an adventure. Like carrying 5-8 bags of roots coco up three flights of stairs while making sure no one sees me.

So I came home last week and found a notice of every unit stating the owner of the building and a realtor will be entering and inspecting every unit.(3 days notice) Naturally, I started to freak out and went into panic mode. For good reason though because my plants are all just about to come down! My girlfriend and I decides that we were going to stop smoking inside and air the place out untill the inspection. We hid all weed related stuff such as bongs, pipes, ect.... In the grow room and cleaned the whole place spotless. Since we decided to not disclose our grow, We crossed our fingers and hoped for the best!

Inspection day way this past Monday and Everything went according to plan! I turned on a fan in the living room and an air purifier to cover up some of the noise that my fans a air pump were making! My land lord even asked My girlfriend and I if we wanted to sign another lease! I am now able to breath a sigh of reliefe and it was kind of a pat on the back to me for my grow that was in full swing to not be detected! Dodged a bullet on that one!

Do you think that it taste that way because floros dont generate as much heat as HID, therefor the THC doesnt degrade as fast or as much as it would under HID lamp? We all know that light and heat degrade THC. I kinda had this theory that because my room runs a lil cold and I only run a 400w with a 90w ufo that my THC wouldnt degrade as fast as it would under say a 600 or 1000 HID lamp. Any one else have any thoughts on this. If it doesnt make sense Im sorry, at the moment it does to me.:bigjoint:

I doubt it...the sun is like 1800w per square foot. The hottest and most powerful grow "light" in the world..and outdoor weed is generally pretty tasty

just my two cents :dunce:

I think it is interesting that Sannies seed shop has seeds from other breeders. Similar attitude and passion maybe?

Are there more green avengers than just subcool at the moment? I have watched every weed nerd (that hasn't been taken down) and I don't think sub has talked too much about this at all.

I would like to see people of similar attitude (and their must be several of you out there - just look at you weed nerds :) ) being given a chance to show their breeding skills...

What about growing in colder temps? Its not always the same temp everywhere. You dont think that same exposure to the sun but colder in one environment than another might just produce a maybe slightly more tasty and probably potent flower because of the fact that heat isnt effecting the THC molecules like it would in a warmer climate?

Well yeah, climate is always going to play a role in the final product.

I'm not an expert but I think as long as the plant is healthy and well watered heat wont negatively effect the potency of the trichomes...I mean if you're trying to grow in the sahara that's not really gonna work too well...I think if it's consistently +100 degrees during the day you probably can't grow...don't know where i'm going with this :dunce: i just had a few dabs while watching the new weed nerd
