The thing I have noticed with LEDs is that the plant expects heat with intense light. However, with LEDs there is no heat so the plant can't react correctly to the intense light. The Kessil H350 fried my seedling from 3 feet away. It thrived under CFLs. Every time I added back the LED the plant reacted badly. I did not get to give the LED a complete evaluation since my roots got rot in the hydro. I was still pretty impressed with the intensity for a 90 watt light!

I might test it again with a single small plant in super-soil and see what the bud characteristics are like under those conditions. Then I will know whether I can ramp up the LED watts and expect good things.

I saw a 40 foot string/tape of LEDs for under kitchen cabinets. I wonder what it would do if you wrapped it around a bush :)

Kessil's are trash, that's why :) I've heard a multiple stories of Kessils frying plants. How is it the plant is getting heat with intense light with HPS if you're air cooling it so that the room never goes above 75? That doesn't make sense :) LEDs generate heat, just not as intense. If you do another LED test I'd recommend something besides Kessil :) Then again some people would say blackstars are trash, too, so... ;)

We (LED users) are fighting and endless battle. Results are everything and led's track record is lacking thus far. That 's why I'm doing mine...to produce good some results. I haven't done LED's on this scale yet so I'm excited. I hope to get some nerds checking in once flower starts and the BBS shows her color.

Yup in the end results speak for themselves :) I'm looking forward to having a lot of fun documenting the results on the next couple grows. I'm not sure I can get similar results as least time this time since they're not full super soil like last time (super soil mixed with base soil with some added amendments to make up for the base soil portion), but have all the supplies to make super soil this weekend straight from the original recipe for my next run of ace of spades and the cuts from this run. Still hoping for good results this time though even so. :)

Lighting up a bowl in honor of sub... wishing him all the best and hopefully things calming down for him on all fronts soon :)

I am wondering if my super soil will be ready. My girls are about a week ahead of schedule and I was pushing it with the baking time to begin with. It will only have about 27 days of cooking and it has been on the cold side so I wonder.

I mixed it up and I will use it regardless. A few years ago I used it after only 2 weeks of baking. It had the fuzz growing the whole time. Worked fine though, no issues. Not that that is a good thing to do but in desperate times...

I will plan better next time I need to mix.

I think you'll be 100% fine -- you may see some minor burning especially on sensitive plants, but that's about it I would expect... or at least that's my experience in putting'em in super soil when it's not quite ready.

I put mine right in fresh 50/50 super soil and they did have some burning but they were still winners!

Doing it right this year. Gotta have the perfect home for my TGA babies! Thanks Subcool!

I run fresh clones under one 400 an two 125's 16inchs from my clone dome, never had a bad clone run...

LEDs put out intense photons of a specific wavelength. I put the Kessil over a house plant when I first got it and switched it on. The room lit up like an A-Bomb - I went outside and laughed at my pink glowing sun-blocking curtains. I left it shining on the plant overnight and in the morning the plant was no longer flat across the top. There was a dome shape where the center had grown! The stems had hardened also. That was all the proof I needed to see this light had potential. I will try a smaller footprint in super-soil this year to see what it can do with good roots and less vegetation.

I also picked up two Eye Hortolux bulbs for HPS and MH.

WOW... that just made my month. So much going on. Insane indoor and sounds like he's doing right this year outdoors. The new strains too!
Dog walker seems like a champ to me. I will definitely be getting that or a cross with it when they drop.

Glad your getting back to normal somewhat Sub.

I read an article that stated 600w HPS was actually better then using 1000w hps... Ill have to try finding the article again.. MY thoughts are if its a smaller grow or even a somewhat larger grow what about having the HPS in the middle say a single one or for a bigger grow more that are inline directly over the plants. and have LEDs on the side at an angle so that they are on the side of the HPS light(s) but not level angled at one end. So basically the HPS are directly over with the LEDs on the sides angled that way the LED lighting is hitting the tops and sides of the plants..

Whats everyones opinion on doing that? I think that would yield much better results with the two.

Yes, I read that 2 600s are better than 1 1K because you can get a bigger spread. I don't need the spread yet and I got the fixture for free so I am going to give it a try :)

Notice I never said LEDs would outyield HPS. I only said they work, which was the question. I'm not sure I believe your terpene comment most people whose side by sides I've read says the LEDs put out more terpenes and resin than HPS. As far as cannabinoids I'm not sure I can believe that only based on personal experience -- if something definitive or scientific comes out that says otherwise, i'm more than willing to believe but most of the HPS vs LED actual comparisons I've read LED has held it's own very well and I have seen LED grows that beat HPS on a g/watt basis. My last all LED grow outperformed every HPS grow I've ever had (including on yield -- granted I never did a super soil hps grow before) -- if I duplicate the same results this time I'm not going back. I'll just have to settle for big yields of dank while people online think LEDs don't work ;)
there is something definitive in science that proves that plants grown in full spectrum lighting produce more cannabinoids and terpenoids then plants grow in few spectrums. its called plant biology. plants feed off of frequencies of light. certain terpenes cant even be produced if UV light isnt present. why do you think that indoor cultivators are steadily trying to find light that mimics the sun as much as possible. the only reason MOST outdoor doesnt turn out better than most indoor is because of all the other factors like wind, dust, bugs, and lack of control over such variables.
i have a few leds. waste of my space. cant speak for yours, because like i said to each his own. but you say confusing things. first you say that your yield increased with leds, but then in the same post you say that you admit that yield will probably be better with HID. clarify please? i dont get how if hid's are cheaper, give you higher yield, more terpenes, etc. you still say led's are better? is it just in your experience, because even if you search this site for side by side comparisons of HID vs LED, you will see majority showing more positive results from the HID lighting.

Good to see another weed nerd!

I'm tired of the LED back and forth, it's just words. I'll let the results speak for themselves over the next few months. Either they'll be good or they won't :) In the end, you can say what you want it doesn't change how my garden grows or buds smoke, any more than what I think of your techniques changes how you feel about your own results :) I'll most likely end up switching back to HPS when I move west only because I'm planning on a much larger grow environment and doubt the LEDs will scale up (not to mention the cost of doing that -- by the way, when you take cost into consideration, you do have to consider electrical use over the life of the product, not just up front cost -- kind of like a hybrid ;) ). My LEDs have UV and I'm adding supplemental as well.

ATTENTION ANY AND ALL FANS OF TGA STRAINS: Through a chance meeting and an exchange of heavy hitting strains (Original Williams wonder and an Original manatuska thunder fuck, or ATF for the world ) I acquired 10 seeds of Black Cherry Soda seeds. You read that correctly. Black. Cherry. Soda. I will be popping these babies and showing them off to the world. Subcool, Dioxide, you guys are amazing. I promise no one will be getting ANY of this shit until you approve. I will post pictures of the progress for proof :)
