I'm doing a little revamping of my methods lately and I wanted to solidify the changes here, in my trusty RIU journal. First, I switched from Fox Farms nutes to General Hydro for greater control over feeding ratios and I'm real happy so far, particularly in the flower chamber. I don't personally think much of the nute debates, I went with what gave me the greatest functional control and access to info at a low cost. Here's what I feed with nowadays.
I'm also trying to increase output, so I'm trying the CC technique, and also running a side by side comparison of CC and SOG. The last 2 trays I put into flower were 1 of each, 1 tray circled and 1 tray of short SOG plants, all in 1/2 gal grow bags, all cloned from the same mom, all getting identical food. I also have 2 trays of CC's in 1 gal bags at about 3 weeks now. See above. Here's a little how-to on the CC thing, but I still recommend the original thread linked in the post above this one.
I poke 4 holes in the bag and stick bread ties in them.
Then I just gently and patiently bend and tie down.
If the end of the stem doesn't reach a tie I use shishkebab skewers to brace them in place.
And you get this.
When the plant goes into flower, all the stretch happens to the braches, which then become colas as the flowering period progresses. So far all my CC plants are looking very promising.
I'm also making changes to my veg system. I want to increase root development prior to putting them into flower. I've taken a bunch of plastic cups and soda bottles and turned them into air-pruning pots by punching holes all through them. Now any roots circling the pots head back into the soil to avoid drying out. I have 8 ounce cups and 1 liter botles, and the plants will spend 2 weeks in each, cup then bottle, before going into flower in 1/2 gallon bags. I'm thinking this will help to bulk up root mass and limit the height of plants in veg. So far so good. Bud update to follow.
