Hi, im 19 years old and have been thinking about joining the Marines. My question is, once i join the marines how long do you think it will be until i will be able to smoke weed safely again and, how often do they drug test you? I'm not addicted to marijuana or anything and i will quit if i have to, but i have smoked weed for 5 years now and it has helped me with pressure at school and its just a relief for me at night when im about to go to bed or at social events. I'm just wondering

Serious answers please.

Thank you

I use to be in the army and they test at random but quite often. Theres usually whats called a 100% every quarter and they do 20% or so every month til then. Its all random. I did smoke on leave, maybe just the first few days and then cleaned out. I also took trips to amdam on the weekends and smoked a somehow never got caught even after smoking in amdam and having a piss test 2 days later :D

I just got out of the Marines last year and here is how it goes:

a. tests are random(usually once a month or so, but no set dates/times), rarely get more than a few hour notice before them
b. not every piss bottle gets tested, usually about 20%... but that is just an estimate
c. sometimes there are 3 piss tests in the same week, they do that to trip people up... It works
d. if you get tested positive, you will likely spend some time in the brig (a few days to a few weeks), you will then lose money and pay. After all that's over you will get kicked out.

With all that being said, I would highly recommend you NOT smoking pot. I know at least 3 people who were kicked out for it. That doesn't mean though there aren't other types of drugs that clear out of your system fast, but I wouldn't recommend them either :)

you will have random test, I unfortunately was injured in mcrd and haven't re-enlisted but many of my Marine buddies have been tested anywhere from 1-10 times a year. If you can't be weed free for 4 years or whatever your contract requires don't join, unless you want to get dishonorably discharged and fucked for life.

Dont join the marines...

Id hate to sound like a recruiter or even recommend to someone to join but the army is way better. You get cash bonuses, alot of overseas duty stations (not just deployments) and a shitolad of good schools, the marines dont get much of that. airborne, air assault (the fun shit), etc etc....Think about it ;)

Marines could care less about the amenities, they just want the title and the toughest training this country offers. That's why I had enlisted and also the reason my buddies did, but yeah it's either Marines or Army. Much love to all those who have fought this war.

You will not be able to smoke it the entire time you are in....if you do, you will get caught. Random piss tests out the ass.....drug dog inspections also.

Marines will more than likely kick you out. Army will probobly keep you in if your caught however they will take your rank and pay. They are just that hard up for bodies right now. I seen a E-5 promotable go to E-1 and get transfered out of his unit because of pot. Also military life can be very intrusive. It is even more intrusive if you are single and live in the billits. I cant count how many times we were woken up to look for booze and silly shit in Iraq, just because someone didnt know how to control themselves. Granted a little bit of alcohol can be overlooked by your chain of command, but marijuana is a diffrent story. I have smoked on leave however I usually made sure to give myself 20 days or so to clean up. So I would go on vacatation and smoke for the first few days and quit.
