I had a small flowering clone which was in soil so I thought that I would transplant it into a hempy bucket. I took a 2 litre pop bottle cut the top off and use an old sieve to make a gauze to hold the perlite in (pic 1)
Put it in a small run off tray and covered it in a black bin liner (to stop algae forming pic 2) I will water it 2/3 times a day till the root hits the res then water every other day
Does this look right up to yet?

Pic 3 moved it in to flowering tent

Thank to az and lumberjack (from page 10 onward) for reviving the hempy method

1-2 times a day depending on light an room temp..but everything else is spot on..good work..peace az :D

4 days into flower and looks like 2 girls and 2 males so I did OK there but the two girls are my worst plants. I think the ladies are suffering from nute burn and I flushed like crazy but the damage was done. The burn seemed to only effect the females. I,m gettin a tds meter for the next grow to help me with the proper level.
Do the girls look healthy enough to keep going or should I start over? This is my first grow(bagseed) so no real big loss and I have more seeds.

if you have 2 girls and you have come this far definetley keep going with them, since they havent been flowering for long try and take a clone from each that way you can still end up harvesting 4 plants at different intervals.....

Removed the males today and will keep going with the 2 girls, I wish I could take a couple clones but my grow needs to shut down in August for a month so I,ll just have time to finish this one. Need to build a veg cab/room and read up on cloning too. Thanks again for the encouragement!

OK... I have a few questions.

After reading this thread I started my plants Hempy style.... only I used hydroton on the bottom 1/4 and Coco for the remaining 3/4. Now I'm HATING the Coco! I'm having a lot of problems with it so I've decided to go 100% Perlite as some others have done. I bought my new containers (9 qt. or 2.25 Gal) and drilled 1 inch holes 2" from the bottom. I secured some screening using PVC Cement as AZ suggested on the first page of this thread. My plants are on day 22 from seed and I'd like to transplant them tomorrow. Here are my questions....

1.) I used PVC Primer then PVC Cement to secure the screen. I'm letting them dry/cure overnight. I plan on rinsing them out before adding the Perlite.... was it ok that I used the primer first and then the cement? (I primed & cemented about 2" around the hole to really secure the screen.) Once Dry do I have to worry about any chemical contamination of my Perlite from the primer and or cement?

2) The only Perlite I could find at Lowes was the Miracle Gro brand. Is this ok? I plan on rinsing it THOROUGHLY before I use it....but I hear everyone saying NO MIRACLE GRO SOIL.... is it ok for Perlite as long as I rinse it well first?

3) My plan is to dump the Perlite into the buckets before transplanting and rinsing it in directly in the pots. Since I have a 1" drain hole with screen I'm thinking this will be as good a place as any to rinse the Perlite (as long as I tip the container to drain out the bottom res.). Is this ok? I also have a brand new paint screen... should I use this instead?

4) After my grow is finished.... can I reuse the Perlite if I wash it thoroughly in a 2% bleach solution.... or is Perlite a "one time use" medium?

NO. NO. No. That's what I used at first, and its what I will never use ever again.

ok lets start
1.you did that the excat way it needs to be done primer first then glue..once you rinse it out thoughly you'll be all good...
2.i personally haven't used that perlite lumberjack has an we haven't had any problems with it...but i prefer the big green bag of horticultural grade per-lite...but with the mg yes thoughly thoughly rinse it out....
3.yea your finewhen you transplant fill up to the hole with per-lite...the hang the plant an roots over the pot so the roots are as close to the base as possilbe then fill with per-lite all around the roots...about a week an the roots will be at the bottem...
4.yes you can re-use it..after the bleach wash..wash with water to get rid of excess bleach solution...

... just as an addendum...

1) i know nothing about.. .glue primer??? i use cups with holes punched in them... haha... i'm sure az knows what he's talking bout though...

2) the thing about mg... it can be used, but i don't like the stuff... not because of the "nutes" in there (come on, you look at those percentages? even with cuttings it has no real effect)... i just don't like the quality of the product... i found a lot of other shit in the bag... wood chips, soil, hairs?!?, etc etc... MG soil has been known to harbor pests... i don't see it being too impossible the perlite could also...

3)i would actually want to soak the perlite first in a big big tub of water letting any extra shit leach out and wash from the perlite... for atleast a couple days... maybe even reapeat in new water then rinse off...let it dry before using again for ease of use...

4)make sure you also clean out any leftover plant material too... roots will break off in the perlite, leaves, etc etc.... perlite will tend to fall apart in time... it is just puffed sand granuals... and water+friction=errosion

Many thanks for the answers!!!! I guess my only other question is where can I get the "big green bag" of Perlite? I don't have a hydro store near me and Lowes only sells the MG brand... I'm assuming the same for Home Depot too..... but I could check. Other then that I guess I'm awaiten for an Internet delivery??? If that's the case.... a link to the site you all get it from would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again :D

Hello fellow hempy growers! This is my first grow so I'm new to all this, but I really liked the hempy concept. I've got four babies that are like an inch tall in 16 oz party cups, and using fish water instead of nutes (I know I was advised against this but wanted to try it anyway.)

I need to know a couple of things...

1. How much/often do I water?
2. When should I transplant into 2 gal hempys? And how do I? They are plastic cups do I just cut the sides? How should I handle the babies? (In fear of breaking them)
3 I have a 150w hps, when should I switch from the flouros I have them under now (2 20w)?

do you have a traditional garden store near you?? We have a chain here called star nursery, thats where I get my perlite.....

water till you see alittle runoff, for the first week or so water daily once the roots hit the res ( you will know when it hapens they will have a growth spurt) you can go every other day, this is all depending on the lights and temps in your grow area

I would tranplant right before you plan to flower, and you can slit the cups and remove the entire rootball, or you can just cut the bottom of the cup out and bog it on top of a larger container

most of these guys love hid's so the general answer is the soooner the better and 2 20w isnt enough to do much for 4 plants so i would say throw the hps on them now

Vermiculite breaks down easier than Perlite.

I asked that same question the answer is yes... it is recomended that you buble the solution for 24 hours prior too feeding I make up a gallon the night before and just throw an airstone in the jug
