perlite dust is only a threat to our lungs it does not hurt the plants i dont rinse mine i try to avoid breathing the dust though. once it is wet it takes care of itself and rinses away when you water.

i know it makes me cough if i inhale it. anything dusty is bad for lungs including perlite. under a microscope the dust from perlite is very sharp edged which makes it more damaging.

Been lurking here some time as I really enjoy your thread. As far as perlite goes, I use it on a weekly basis and I can tell you that it is very bad for your lungs and nose if you inhale it. I usually wet it down with the hose before use and that seems to knock down the dust pretty well. Its easy fast and alot safer than inhaling the dust.

Power to the Hempy!

I also do the same greenthumb ever since the 1st time i delt with it inhaling that stuff was no good. I always wash it down now before i pour it out, makes it easier ta handle too.

ok i have finaly read the thread from 1-149 and i can say i have learned a lot and have a few questions im currently growing in soiless medium Peat vermiculite and pearlite using dynamite slow release fert doing quite well started in jiffy pellet packs and transplanted when they bumped the top of the "gro dome" prolly a lil late but they have taken off nicely slowly learning about lighting as i had them out in sunlight (figured out they were only getting 6-8hrs of full sunlight) so brought them in to my "lab" used everything from halogens to just plain 150w eqiv 2700k cfls till i found out the 6500k may be alittle more productive for veg so i have a mix now w/mylar tent aka thermal blanket from camp section to reflect lights as was lighting the room as much as the plants when first started
i currently have a mini keg (like the heiniken ones) and wondered if this would be suitable to use a hempy bucket as ive only seen plastic type probly will leave my current plants in as they are but hope they are all fems (bagseed) and chop the tops for clones will get pics soon

the aluminum of the keg would probably corrode quickly when exposed to fert salts and water and might effect levels of metals in the soil. metal also conducts and holds heat longer than plastic. its most likely you could use the keg fine without issues but plastic would be better as it is proven to work well.

was there ever a definitive answer about molasses with organic nutes in hempy??? i used on my first grow and had problems... but it was my first grow... now i have a tent full of beautiful bud whores sprouting and i'm entering my second week flowering... want to try molasses again but have read mixed reviews.. want some personal experience or something safe to replace... THANKS!!!

*edit

I am using fox farms 3 part hydro exactly as the paper suggests.. all of my fems are clones taken off of 4 month old mothers.

check out bigd's growjournal earlier in the thread i think he was using molasses but stopped or cut back on the dosage i also hear but not yet confirmed (im trying it tonight) is use 1/4-1/2 cup of unsweetened apple juice per gal of water

If you are using the fox farms, I'd say just buy the solubles! I've used one of them, and have been very happy with it, and everyone I've talked to about them says to use them all. just my 2 cents though.

been awhile since i posted in the thread. i got a bubblicious and a power skunk in the flower room right now. about 2 weeks into flower for the bubb, 3 days for the power skunk. still loving hempy.
PS on the left, Bubb on the right

Bubb

i had a little yellowing after i transplanted them. it's starting to get better. i'm getting some g.h. flora, hoping that's easier to use than the earth juice(ph is a bitch)

just in case anyone's curious, here's a better shot of the flower chamber.

i also tried apple juice and had the same brown crap... i think it is the natural bacteria crap activated by the sugars or some such shit... not sure...

might have been my newbieness.... i started 8. 2 died, 5 were male... this time i started 6 and cloned around 18 of 3 of them... 13 rooted... all plants female... they are looking perfect...

all 16 oz styrofoam cups... hempy is easy..

to the person who suggested the soluble... brand and product name would help... thanks

ITs the Fox Farm three part solubles, Open sesame, beastie blooms, and Cha Ching. They are a granular soluble that is only used during certain parts of flowering. I used the open sesame, and and was very impressed with how many buds I got, and how fast. I haven't been able to afford the other 2 solubles, but everyone that I've spoken to about them has strongly suggested them. I'm still hoping I might get to finish my sativas and kush with the Cha Ching, my WW doesn't have that much time left. Woohoo, only like 3 more weeks on her!!!

well the molasses is like 3.50 or something and i already have it. so i was hoping just for a sugar substitute or some good news on the molasses... i do really wanna get the 3 pack solubles... i was really just inquiring about the molasses for hempy though. or something like liquid karma. heard mixed statements on both of them for hempy though.

with my ladies being in 16 oz cups, i have to water everyday so i guess i can fix the problem soon if it starts. i'm 2 weeks into flowering yesterday... (showed their feminine side in 3 days) i'm wanting to start sugar treatment soon....

i have been using sugars in my hempy grow without issue what would be the concern stagnation in the resevoir? my plants are doing great just wondering.

stagnation isnt a problem. My ladies are every day to every other day watering...

i think its the natural bacteria in the organic nutes reacting with the sugars in molasses/apple juice. tried both with my fox farms and both algae/mold/brown jizzed overnight... there is an equivalent mentioned on RIU before that is used in hydro applications and it was liquid something... i dont think it was liquid karma... maybe it was.... what nutes are you using racer?

Stink Bud uses a product called "sweet" I think its made by botanicare. He has great results with it, and he uses it in an aero system, so I don't imagine it would cause problems in a hempy system.

guys help please.

Looking at my seedlings they look about ready to be transplanted to their 16 oz hempy's but not sure since Ive heard roots should be poking out the side of the rockwool and not only the bottom. If you take a look at the pics my roots are pretty long, I had my rockwool cubes in a tray full of perlite and the roots where deep in the perlite, (is this safe?) i had to kind dig the perlite and move it somewhat to get the roots loose, anyway do they look ready or should i wait little longer? also they look little yellowish i been watering every day to every other day no nutes yet should i start nutes? they both sprouted on 5/10 so its been like 2.5 wks.
btw i read somewhere that i shoulden spray water on the leaves because the light will dry and burn them, which i think is what happen to mine.

thanks in advance guys, i love this forum:peace:
