The economy and a transition from personal to lite commercial growing

Has anyone around here had to go from a strictly personal grow to growing a few extra plants to make ends meet after a job loss or something? I know in this economy we can't be the only ones...

I'm starting to man... But it's legal for me since I'm carded and will be growing for dispensaries. Just need to get my grow area situated.

Not to make ends meet or anything, I'm locked into my job, but just to make more income. I'm trying to grow my way through med school, hahahaha.

Luckily I just found a job but I was about two weeks away from doubling the size of my grow. It is tough right now and i am sure there are a lot of people finding themselves in a situation where they have to generate income.

There is a large pool of workers out there right now that have the intelligence and the business sense to make money growing. It is just a matter of time until desperation sets in and other options dry out. Marijuana used to be a mexican business but I suspect a huge spurt in mom and pop grows is occurring right now and within a year you will be hard pressed to find weed that wasn't grown in the good ol' US of A. We have already turned it into an American business for the most part but we still don't produce the supply to meet the demand but I think that is changing.

Well be goin' on 2 months with the hubby outta work.. I work for myself part time, but looks as though its time to drag out the hps n set up shop..

Doing the same thing right now and not meaning to hijack the thread but have a question. Going to "lite" commercial I needed to move the operation out to the "country". I am looking for a propane genset to operate a 600 w electronic ballast light and think a 5000 kw gen will do it has anyone done this. Probably running outside contained for a buried short container?? any one done this??

How set up are you in terms of moving the finished product? If it is easy for you to move product it is more profitable short term to just sell someone else's weed.

But having a good sized grow going is the nest egg for the future. By lite commercial what do you mean? risk to profit says anything under a pound a month prob isn't worth it.

Man.. I've got two kids n livin' in the country all the running around and people coming and going of being a simple dealer is a liability to me.. but getting rid of a few ounces a week through 1-2 buddies is doable.. lol.. we ain't lookin to get rich, just bridge the gap until hubby is working again..

Ohio here, laws are a bit lax.. lol..

I was thinking about starting growing in order to sell. I'd be okay on the grow side, I think, but dealing is not my thing. The dealers Round here are shady, I'm afraid people might think I'm a cop if I start selling, I don't even look like I would smoke.

I started for the same reason. I didn't loose my job, but I went from 50 hrs a week to 32 and it sucks:wall:. I don't think there are any good areas in OH right now. Were I'm at has almost 20% unemployment.

It sounds like you have your head on straight and know what to watch out for, so all I'm going to say is good luck and I hope things get better for you and your husband.:peace:

If I were single I would have taken my little grow to a pound or 2 a week just to have extra cash and possibly even for a business. I had pretty much everything worked out, a way to roll the cash into a legit business that is also fairly cash heavy with no overhead (service business). I cook the books a little bit, if I ever have to account for my finances (like to the IRS) then I just look like a really bad record keeper. I had a place to grow, cure and store and all my equipment and even had 2 guys ready to move anything I grew at very nice prices.

That all changed when my wife walked out to my shed one day and asked me why there was foil on the wall and why those "tomato" plants smelled like a skunk.

That all being said if we were in CA I would get my med license and then grow as much as I could to sell to dispensaries (might be more complicated than that, I will admit that I don't know much about med systems).
