The Chinese Quantum Board Knock Off Builds

Been thinking of upgrading my light, and using the spider farmer sf2000. But after reading threw here was wondering if someone could recommend something of similar build? My flower tent is a 2x4x5. I'm on my second grow but, think I could do better with a different light. I have no problem with the diy. Thanks.

maybe im trimming wrong or im just slow af

going to hang that 480w with two 125ws soon in a 6x6 with 6 5gallon pots with autopots auto watering so hopefully im going to yield big just going to be a pain to trim.
i also try to lollipop a lot, which leads to less bud sites and bigger buds.

a 320w 3 board quantum unit wold be perfect for your tent dimensions. Either King Brite or Meijiu brands which both can be found on the alibaba app. Are you looking for a full cycle light? Or a flower/veg only light?

I'm looking for a full spectrum. I already have a veg tent, but need it to to be both in case I need to veg longer. Thanks for the help, I downloaded the app and will see what I can find. Being only 5ft tall do you think I'll run into bleeching or foxtailing? For both I need the 3k right?

If you’re after a full cycle light then I’d suggest 3500k. Realistically you can veg/flower under any spectrum but the 3500k will be the best of both worlds for you. The 5 foot height limit definitely makes it tougher but you should be able to manage especially with the 320w dimmed down a bit allowing a closer hanging height while keeping the heat down.

You missunderstood. Im talking about driver ac to dc efficiency. Not the led chip. The closer you are to fulll driver load the less the driver waste on turning ac to dc.
No, I'm talking about the driver. You're just plain wrong. The closer you are to minimum driver load the less loss of efficiency.

Edit: Turns out I'm the idiot. Posted a graph below.

Meanwell are better than most other on this. Also when i say full load im refering more to cc drivers than cv: the closer you are to max voltage oon a cc driver the more efficient.
You don't adjust the voltage to dim. We need a fixed voltage all the time or the light doesn't work.

You can use voltage for dimming on hlg cv drivers A-type. But its not really good for dimming, its more usefull for setting an upper limit of how much power each board can draw.

And i dont think youre an idiot, looking at cc derating curve it looks like its still fairly efficient at lower loads but tbh im not sure how to read that graph. But CV looks like loads less efficient at low load.

Anyways ill be in limited internet land for a few days. Happy holidays to all

Yeah well I think I'm an idiot. :)

Stephen from HLG told me to oversize my drivers slightly so they'd run cooler and last longer and I confused that with efficiency. That plus every computer power supply efficiency curve I've ever seen is roughly a bell curve, and I assumed that the A type drivers set the low-end of the dimming range to the top of the efficiency curve.

It's only like 3% efficiency difference as long as you don't have a B type driver turned all the way down below 40%, and there is a massive efficiency gain by cooling down the LEDs that completely outweighs anything you lose in the driver.

Have you bought from them before? Just looking at both people they seem kind and of steep on shipping. I think with shipping I was only like $40 cheaper than the sf2000. If you had choose between the 2 which one would you go with? The US warranty work would be nice, but if theirs will outperform I'll have to thing about it harder.

I've used meijiu before. $325 shipped on a 480w r-spec QB knockoff.

Would the average grower notice a difference in quality and yield if these knockoff quantum boards from kingbrite and meijiu had lower bin diodes or such ?
I'm having a terrible time choosing between either kingbrite quantum boards with 660 730 and UV or bridgelux eb gen 2 strips.... didnt think spending money could be so difficult :/

Realistically I can only give you advice based off of research which I still have much to do. I’ve grown outdoors for years and indoor the last few. Coming from T5 and HPS, all the LED tech is new to me. I’m in the same boat as deciding which route to go. I was talking to one grower who noticed some mutations under his QB’s with ir and uv but at the same time I’ve talked to growers who use the same light and have had nothing but good things to say.

I’m now researching the benefits of strips to QB and man is there a lot of info out there. It does get technical at times but thankfully there’s members here who take the time to explain it in more layman’s terms. Just use the search function on this forum and the many others to find what you need. In terms of the diode bins the Ali suppliers use, you have to take a leap of faith I guess. I’ve seen grows from people using Chinese QB’s and they look spanktastic. So I wouldn’t worry much if you order from the reputable suppliers that are talked about here.

To be honest not too much difference. And also if you buy from one without buying from the other you wont have anything to compare. I sincerely rec thinking more about how to build for your space, taking account of hanging height and spread, how to handle the fixture (hanging/raising/lowering in a practical way) and how you handle environment instead of focusing on details in datashhets.
Everyday you doubt what to do is another day not growing with your leds. Eventually you have to pull a trigger

Ik its killing me ! Screw it ! I'm ordering the eb gen 2 560mm strips

Got to agree with Rocket Soul. You could spend months and months going through every positive and negative review of every light in this thread alone.....Then you weigh it all up get buy your light and next day you find that something else comes out (In this thread we started out with just white led's) now we have added reds of various shades and uv of various shades too....all make a difference BUT for me the 480 "kit" I got from kingbrite in march this year still grew my best crop yet....I have no supplement led colours of any description and although I "hate" being behind the tech race I still wont replace anything I have until I really need to.
Just buy the kit that suits your setup/space.

Check out cobshopsgrows thread he has a cool little eb build. You and mikey should talk your in the same space. If youre going for heatsinks it could be a good idea to source alu which will fit 2 strips, that way you can update easier later. Building lights is a process which is great fun but if you try to figure everything out in one go you end the fun way too soon. Happy building and dont forget to ground your frames!
