normally they just stuck on, screwdriver, lever, be gentle.

cant add a picture, so here another def. pic.
Cocos, lots light and a tad of epsom salt here n there give this, ok ok lots is possible.View attachment 4369077
Very nice, id up ph a bit for more Mag uptake (6.5 works for us in coco) and a bit higher leaf temps for higher transpiration. Its not that easy to grow under 1000 umols of led

yeah looks like a Mag issue, added epsom allready.
Will go a bit higher with the PH, maybe sensefull this late in flower.
Normally try to aim more towards 6, as i fear other lockouts above 6.2.
Temp should be ok atm, quite high, above 80F.

Epistar 660s in Meijiu and Kingbrite (301b or 301h 3000k) boards:
Hi all.
I'm assuming that there is some knowledge here on RIU about the performance of these Epistar diodes. I've heard some brief remarks criticizing their output as older tech vs Cree or whatever the newer red diodes used by HLG in the Rspec might be.

Has anybody weighed the value for flowering of the extra red spectrum those epistars provide at the cost of overall efficiency/PPF?
I'm just wondering if it might actually be better to get older 301b boards without the red diodes?
Looking for opinions/suggestions.
Thanks!

I made some calculations but with many assumptions as its hard to pin down the diodes: my best guess is epi reds is about 2/3s efficiency of lm561c.

Afaive seen: best bet for reds is kingbrites boards with lm301b 3000k 90cri and their qb11 clone, 2 foot strip, with 11 cree 660s. Just over 40$ which is cheaper than their all in one cree boards.

I believe I remember you mentioning those 3000k 90cri boards before rocket.
Am I correct that those are only available ordered as components and not in a "bundle"?
Which kingbrite sales rep gave you the quote? Do you remember the price per board?
Thanks ;-)

Im a firm believer in 90 cri flower.
I think i had them quoted at 29$, the qb11 clones at 11-14 i this. It was vicki i believe.
Afaik its the only 90 cri board on the ali regulars. But i allways wonder if ill actually get it cause some of my 3000k boards have visibly different spectrum.

Correction: only place that claims they got lm301b in 90cri.

But this is what i would try out until theres theres bridgelux eb gen3 2700k90cri.

Damn you blux, fucking trolling us.......lol .....actually have no crappy grow closet atm, so the wait isn't too bad; )

Hopefully we'll see some grows with 2700k/90 cri strips by thanksgiving. Fingers crossed

What's everyone's opinion on the boards bava is making? I got one of their 240 watt boards on amazon and was pretty impressed with it, but I dont have any experiance with leds to compare it with. But after visiting their Alibaba site I'm thinking about getting one of their 720 watt panels that's just under 500 shipped.

I've been playing with the 125w kb qb288 board. In my setup the temp goes up 3C (26->29C) when turned on. That seems fine but both the heatsink and the driver will burn my skin if i touch them for 2 seconds. This means the temps must be 70+C!

I can move the driver outside the tent and add a fan to the board but I was under the impression that these could be cooled passively... but it seems not. Are my results unusual?

My tent is 60x60x180cm

Typical, its not that hot the drivers will shut off after like 60C? on the case. In some tents, there is a 6inch duct hole near the top horizontally, right at hanging height so you can have air blow in from the left right across it and out the right side. That will cool it like 10c atleast. You can mount 5W pc fans and you will get enough efficiency out of it to make up for the used watts. Its passively cooled because it wouldnt benefit from any serious cooling methods and it wont explode if it gets too hot, 95% of them will just cut off. When i used to use fan cooled blurples, i would put the duct in on the bottom and the duct out at the top so it would pull out the hot air in the top, as horizontal ducts wouldnt pull the heat out of the top 6 inches, it would just go in and out.

Do you have any results/plant photos? Im looking at getting a few from bava. I'm using HLG stuff right now but i want something to play around with.

So far so good, only had it a few days but the plants are seeming to respond well so far. Def nothing negative to say at this point atleast. The board was packed really well for shipping and it was assembled extremely cleanly. I'd def recommend getting it from their Alibaba if you want to save around 40%.

My only thing about it I didnt expect was the footprint of visual light being a little smaller than I figured it would be. It's not smaller than they said, but I'm a long time HPS grower so I'm used to they way hps really throws light around. I currently have it running around half power.

I'll be able to give better info as the weeks go by, like I said I've only had it a short time and its hung over plants that were already started. It's in the middle of a 5x10 scrog with a 1kw hps on one side an a 1kw dimmed to 600 on the other. The middle was always just ok but right now the middle is doing atleast as good as the 1kw side.

Mine don't get that hot but they will be half the temp with a little fan blowing air on them, not mounted, just pointing at them.

Looks like I can't edit my previous post but having measured the the temps they are 56.9C on the heatsink and a few degrees less for the PS. My first thought was to put a fan over the light blowing downwards but in a 60x60cm tent I think that will mess up the airflow. Blowing from the side of the heatsink is the next option but the PS means that really only one side of the board will be air cooled.
The last solution is to separate the PS from the heatsink and then add a fan to it. That would work best but seems a lot of work

I think I will just have to test the options and see. Thanks for the insights @Jqwerty1 and @coreywebster :bigjoint:

Its not much effort to have the driver off and extend the cable. 5min job.
I have a little pc fan pointing at mine when they are running 100%, it really only needs a slight breeze , You will be amazed what a difference it makes.

That said its nothing to worry about leaving it as it is.

Hello looking for some input and I’m sure you all have the knowledge to help point me in the right direction. After taking a long break I wanted to get back into growing, but would like to upgrade my hid light for my 2x4 tent. Wanted to look into led options and stubbles into the HLG boards and then later found this thread. Was wondering what’s the general consensus on best lighting options (wired light, kit, or components for building one) for this space and for at budget of around 200-300
Preferably something that’s going to give a nice spread of PPFD from what I read looking for the most budget friendly way to spread a good high PPFD is the key to lighting. Was thinking of the 320W FOTOPS V2-320H-1
