looks to be a twin turbo inline 4 dro...
well that part is pretty obvious but whens the last time you saw a inline 4 with 2 exhaust manifolds? and a intake manifold going down through the middle of the head like a old school v8? would love to check out that head, has to look crazy by itself.

lol, knew you'd like that answer dro.. :D

but yeah, idk wtf it is, but the article was mentioning the f1 engines from the 80s as well as the lancia's from rallying.. i was trying to make out the writing on the valve cover but couldn't make it out..

ya i think its called a triflux engine and was used in the lancia ecv 1 which was i believe a concept race car. dont know if it ever actually raced. but in that article they show some diagrams on how that engine works. head looks like what i thought it would but they dont show the valves. its gotta have a crazy valve/camshaft setup. like a 3 cams or something.

i'm pretty sure some of the lancia's used ferrari engines dro.. i was watching top gear bbc one day, and they were test driving an old lancia, and i remember jeromy clackson going on and one about it's ferrari power..
i just looked it up, and it seems lancia and ferrari are sister co's, they must both be owned by fiat in some way or another.. not too familiar with lancia as they weren't very big in the us.

Crazy, it's an I4 but has the dual exhaust manifold on either side of the block like a V8, and turbos sitting on each manifold.

And the valve timing design that allows it to push out more exhaust, allowing it to power both turbos is sick.

I'm guessing other companies aren't allowed to use that design because of FIAT's patent?

ya not a huge fan of their looks either but you can buy what is basically a ferrari for half the cost so thats a cool aspect.

i guess its really not as good of an idea as they thought and thats why other companies dont use it. plus its takes up so much space for such a little engine it really wouldnt fit in much.
