The Car Talk Thread

I've got a 1 ton Superduty & I only shut mine off when I want to use engine braking going down hill.
My boat isn't heavy enough to have any effect on the 6L diesel or the Allison transmission.

Rule of thumb for me is if it's shifting up and down a lot (hills/stop & go) then I might be inclined to shut OD off more often.

you aren't exactly slummin it in the truck dept are ya ?:bigjoint:

You dont need to use tow haul mode it just takes out overdrive. your vehicle will pull its self outta overdrive if speed decreases to rapidly etc its just an extra button

I was just thinking about making a car thread lastnight.... I have two dodge stealth RT Twin Turbos. A 93 with 45k miles and a 1991 that I swapped a JDM Mitsubishi GTO engine and trans into. The 93 is fully restored including electronically controlled suspension and 4 wheel steering.

Sent from my SAMSUNG - GALAXY S4 using Rollitup mobile app

Hey you stoners... I need to buy a new vehicle. Looking at the compact or crossover SUV class. Just starting, but Mazda, Suburu, Honda, and that thing that they use that MIA song for (that might be a Suburu) are the sort of thing I am looking at. A penny or your two cents.

Some things important to me: Stable, sporty ride; economy; reliability/warranty; moderate cargo space (about a pound).

Would appreciate any input from you.

Hurry up and roll that thing so i can buy your engine, tranny harness and ecu for my prerunner taco.

Shits not looking good for schui, at least the coma is medically induced to slow the swelling. Hopefully he can recover like pro snowboarders chris dufficy and kevin peirce. Both he at tommy kendal really sparked my love for racing back in the mid 90s. Michael is the greatest f1 driver and i believe without him ferrari would never have became the marketing machine that they are today.

Keeping good thoughts for Schumi.
Unclebaldrick even a Lotus Elise can carry a pound. Provided its not too fluffy.
I don't really know anything about crossovers because fuck large cars but a Mazda 3 or a Subaru Impreza would be my top choices.

Yeah I'm super worried about schumi as well.. I missed the senna days and started watching f1 around 96 or so and have always been a huge fan.
Head trauma is so tricky though for sure.. sometimes the people you think aren't gonna make it end up fine, as well as the other way around . It just sucks to have a pretty event less career driving f1 cars, minus a broken leg at Silverstone in 99..
I keep thinking about massa's accident at the hungaroring(sp?) in '09 and how well he came out of it.. got my fingers and toes crossed for Michael though..

Just got off work checked up and his situation has slightly improved following a second surgery but still critical.
Crazy the local redneck rock station was reporting on this, and considering not a word was said about silvas leg breaking in a place where everyone wants to be an mma fighter thats pretty big news. I can only imagine how big of a deal this is europe.

I haven't heard anything on the local news, only on Facebook feeds.. guess that's what happens when 90% of the stuff on my Fb is all f1 related.. :)

[h=1]Michael Schumacher In A 'Stable Condition' Following Ski Accident (VIDEO)[/h]

Michael Schumacher has continued to recover following a severe head injury sustained while skiing and is now "stable", his spokeswoman has said.
In a brief statement, Sabine Kehm said: "Michael's condition has been supervised all night and has remained stable, overnight and also now.

The F1 champion is continuing to recover
"The good news for today is that we do not feel it necessary to hold a press conference because there are no significant changes."
The racing driver fell while skiing off-piste in the resort of Meribel in France on Sunday, splitting his helmet on impact and resulting in a near-fatal head injury.
Rescuers were on hand within minutes and he was initially conscious after the accident before deteriorating into a critical condition.

Schumacher fell while skiiing near the resort of Meribel in France on Sunday
He was airlifted to Grenoble hospital, where neurosurgeons have operated twice to remove blood clots on the brain and reduce swelling.
Doctors have said the impact caused numerous brain injuries including intracranial hematomas (multiple blood clots), bilateral lesions and bruising of the brain.
An initial operation carried out on Sunday to reduce swelling, was followed by a second to remove the largest of a number of clots in his brain.
Jacqueline Hubert, the Grenoble hospital's director general, said yesterday his condition had started to improve.

I have a car question. When stored outdoors, how low do temps have to go to require a heated dipstick etc.?

We're going below zero next week, and staying there for a while.

Happy New Year!

If i remember rightly it has more to do with the oil than the car itself etc, oil doesnt freeze at 0 like water does and synthetic/mineral oils as well have different freezing temperatures as well, if you know what type of oil your car uses you can probably find the reccomended operating temperature range from the manufacturers website
