ok i will clear the air srry. dont use a paper towel do what i said.

dont use a paper towel ther are too many ways you can damage a seeds taproot like sum1 said erlyer it could stick a little andd when ya pull it off it can be damaged. you want to avoud contact with that tap root best way to do that is to plant the seed b4 it cracks and once it sprouts dont water it too much you dont wanna rot it out b4 it grows which sounds like your problem i would suggest soaking it over night then planting it in the pot its gonna live in first water the entire pot real well then just push the seed in up to about a quarter inch good rule is the seed goes twice as deep as it is wide. you can screw up the tap root when you take it off the paper towel you can screw up the taproot by touching it with your greasy lil fingers you could screww up the tap root by planting it in a hole and snaping it without knowing or crushing it or a lot of other reasons so soak it over night water pot well plant seed i put mine under a cfl but it really doesnt need light til its above soil, and keep it warm
took the words right from my mouth

+1 soak overnight, then plant in rapid rooter. It seems like the most natural and straight-forward method.

I don't care for the paper towel method because I don't like the idea of handling the sprouts; also I've read (Cervantes & Soma) that removing the sprouts from the paper towel can damage invisible micro-roots.

Yes it can damage them if them sprout too much n cling to the towel, but handle them carefully or with tweezers,or simply dont be lazy n keep checkin them n plant them b4 they gro too big. in the marijuana bible i read this is one of the best suggested methods by JORGE CERVANTES

I germed 10 white widow seeds and only one has sprung up so far. It's about an inch high and I see no signs of life from the rest. I'm thinking I should have used the paper towel method. Arrrggghh!

I cant get theese fuckers to get past the germinating stage cuz once ths sprout they stop growing.

The only thing i can think of is leaving the paper towel too wet.

Is this a big problem?

I need help too with getting theese seeds to germinate,
.

I have been thru $200 in seeds and still have none of them get past this point.

how long have they been i for?
I had them in water for about 20 hours. Yesterday afternoon I peeled back where I had put the seeds in the rapid rooter plugs and there are 4 more that have sprouted. This morning one of them is showing, barely peeking it's tiny head out. Although 5/10 is not my idea of good, I can live with 5 for now.

Yep, got 6 up now. Looks like there might be one or two more trying to peek through. I'm happy.

dont worry, despite people frettin n sayin this cud go wrong n that cud go wrong not much actually does go wrong, just get the basics right n ul be fine,ie right water ph,temperature, humidity, light n its needs fresh air,if using a closet with few plants aslong as u open the door a few times a day it will be fine n no fans r needed, afterall weed is a WEED and grows easily with the basics got right

Just got my new light system in place and checked the babies again: a NEW baby! That's 7 plants sprouted now. BTW, the new light system is fricking awesome! I have two 2 bulb (40") T5 strips on the outside and three 12" x 12" 45w LED (mixed red and blue) panels between them. I'm not going to use the HPS this year!

I just tried my first soil germination. I have suspected on several occasions that damage to the tap root while germinating in paper towel caused some issues for a few of my plants, and I also have seen it cause tap roots to grow loops and U shapes before heading down, which I figure has got to be a bad thing.

Like other posters, it's been 3-4 days, and I've already worried about them. But when I think about it, towel germinating I usually see a tap root at 24-48 hours, and then once planted it usually takes a day or three to break through soil, so I am being patient and having faith they will sprout up!

I have been worried with the jiffy pellets that it might dry out, so I have been keeping a little water in the bottom, and the plug has been staying quite moist. I plan on planting as soon as I see the surface break, and will stop leaving the soil wet. I hope this all works, because I like it a lot more than germinating outside a grow medium.

i don't like to germinate seeds i just plant them in solo cups put plastic over them and play the waiting game , average time for sprouting about 2 to 3 days if they are good viable seeds.:peace:

I have tried many ways to germinate or just to plant them directly in the soil to pop n I like the paper towel method the best. I guess its cuz I wanna see the taproot, maybe its reassurance to me that they will pop. Could be a psychological thing too or maybe Im just really STONED right now..lol

How many times did you use that method Whietiger? If you only used it once, it might have just been great genetics - or you could be the next ganja genius! I don't know, but to truly make a statement "guaranteed 100%" is pretty bold. It sounds good, very similar to how I do it. I've tried at least 10 different things but the greatest and most often overlooked influence is heat.
