So my girls have been giving off their sweet sensual perfume for days now, and I know I should have done this sooner... but here is my DIY carbon filter..

Picked up a few things at walmart.

Black duck-tape
Black "Pencil cup"
Smaller black "Pencil cup"
Black ladies socks (pantyhose)
Activated carbon

Poor some carbon in the mesh like "pencil cup"

.... just enough so the smaller cup is level with the larger cup.

Slip the smaller cup into the sock

Tuck the sock into the smaller cup holding the end of the sock. Pore in the carbon.. keep holding the end of the sock.

Now pull on the end of the sock and use your finger to guide the carbon into the space between both cups until filled.

Now pull the end of the sock over the entire filter.. twist the end of the sock at the bottom and pull it up over the end of the cup.

Now simply use duck-tape to place the filter over your exhaust fan. I used a rubber band to secure it...

Works great... though I already miss that sweet aroma =[

Don't forget to visit the rest of my micro grow for more great Zen style DUI.. link in my sig...
.

Very awesome. What was your final price building the filter ?

Wow guys... thanks for the great response =] ... I was hoping you would like it.

And this little guy will work for just about any size cab...

In fact... build a quick manifold out of 3" PVC piping, and you can link as many as these as you want for the size of your grow... have 4 of these for a decent size closet grow for example.

This is a sneak peak of my micro grow in a cab. 4 plants 2 weeks into flowering.. you can see the fan I'm using in the background.... This filter works perfectly and...

.. Some nice side effects of this filter besides the oder control (eliminated)... It also blocks light getting in and out of the cab through the exhaust fan... not to mention is muffled the noise of the fan as well.... a must have for all stealth grows. =]

There is no hint of smell any more... and I'm not kidding when I say that I do miss it =[..
but my goal is to make it stealthy.

I was thinking though... just simply apply it to any small fan, and place the fan/filter unit in any room for an easy do it yourself air purifier.

I spent like $10 to make it.. best of all, it's re-usable. Simply replace the carbon!

Do not hesitate to try this at home...

The pencil cups are in the office supply isle.
The activated carbon is in the pet isle next to the fish tanks
the rest is easy to find.

Peace.... and keep it fun

I search this sight for all the little things to make an awesome grow cab. What lights to use and how to control smell and what to use for soil, nutes, etc... This has been one of the best things I have seen. Plus your sig blurb is right on. Thanks man you made my day.

That looks like just the ticket.

I found carbon but in bigger chunks. Do you think I should mash them up a little?
You should be okay doing that.
I'm pretty sure with that stuff, when the smell starts coming through you can crunch it up to re-activate it and get a few months more from it.

Great filter Wolfman.

crushing it will give it more surface area, which is a good thing. it's all the surface area that is what makes it work so well at absorbing things. to "re-activate" the carbon and get more life out of it, I've also heard of baking it on a sheet tray at 350F for 30 minutes. I haven't tried this, but could be worth a try.
