I am going to make this Carbon filter and was wondering to those who have tried using it with an inline fan which will do to attach to the filter and if the 6" is overkill?

4" Inline Duct Fan 80 cfm http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=46434
6" Inline Duct Fan 250 cfm http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=46447

Thanks!
I'm using a pc fan and it's doing the job with no problems so I would think the 4" fan would be more powerful than my pc fan and that it would do the job just fine thus making the 6" fan overkill.

You might get these fans cheaper at home depot when you factor in any tax and/or shipping charges along any other costs incurred in the total cost for your purchase.

built mine today. just like it said everything at wally-world. for like 12 bucks.. found both pencil cups near stationary, they had both silver and black. carbon in fish department, and got pair of woman's black nylons for like 75 cents. I am using two 4 inch computer fans pictured to exhaust air from my box and I threw a pic of the babies in for good measure.

**side note** at first I had twisted and doubled the nylon back to the top of the filter and secured it with the rubber band. To lessen air restriction I decided to just tie it at the base. ***not pictured

im having a little trouble with this thing restricting my airflow so my temp builds up in cab....whats the cfm on your fans?
I'd have to read over it again but I think if you buy 2 more pencil cups you pretty much have everything you need to build the second one. Then build an output duct as shown be the other member and add 2 filters to the duct and it will allow twice as much air to pass. See how that helps with airflow.

Just made mine, brah! Gonna add yer thread to a link in a post in my grow! Still wonderin how long it'll last! Thanx fer the idea, brah!
Purely guessing but I'd say 6 months to a year, it all depends on how much air is passing over it, what other contaminents are in the air that the carbon is absorbing, how much carbon is in the filter to absorb bad stuff, lots of variables to consider.
