The Bagseeded Newbie - Lighting and other questions

Hello, this will be my first grow and first post and I am quite excited about it. I live in Hawaii and I'm starting off my grow with an 18 gal plastic container, 1 gal pots (?), foxfarm soil, CFL lighting and hopefully I can find some means of ventilation before the seeds start sprouting. I was concerned with whether or not 5000k is a good Kelvin reading for vegging? Should I stick to 6000k minimum? Also, I know nothing of growing within a confined space and wonder if my plant will grow too big. How will I control it? Will trimming be enough? Is this SCROG method worth a shot? Thank you for reading. bongsmilie

Also, how big of a pot will I need for the plant to remain stealth, yet healthy? My container is approximately 3'(h)x3' 1/2"(L)x2'

Topping
LST
SCRoG
FIM
Super Crop
12/12 from Seed

These are a few terms you can search for to keep the plant a manageable size.

I've seen people just use the 2700k for veg and flower so im sure 5000k will work. Might just slow veg a bit. Scrog is good. Ive tried everything listed above by becorath and a good scrog is the best. The only problem is that it takes longer to fill a screen than say just just lst it a bit or snip and let it heal for a week. plus your using bag seed which you know will yield males so starting to bend these and then pulling all males might leave you with an empty screen. What I do is grow a few more than what I want to end up with at the end with non fem seeds. When you switch to 12/12 the males will show first in about 3 days. Going back to a veg lighting schedule might stress the lady or ladies that you have left so I think just stick with an lst fim or top. When you know you got a mama you can simply clone her and then start a scrog with known females.

Thank you both, definitely a big help. I am now underway with the construction of the box as the seedlings are a stewin in the mini-greenhouse :).
