the absolute simplest [possible gro option....advice?

I just realized that I have this very cool enormous walk-in closet WITH A BIG BRIGHT WINDOW and as I am really a total newbie as it pertains to growing (with the exception of doing an outdoor grow 32 years aog....eeeegad....that means I'm old), maybe I should just do the simplest of all simple grows by germinating a couple of seeds, and letting the natural light make my first grow a total simple of simple choices? Soil and natural light (right now we're at about 12/12)?

Now I will re-read everything that I have tossed aside cuz I had been totally on the kick of trying sumthin sophisticated and in my case expensive (i.e., a toal turn-key stealth grow box).

Whaddaya think, am I wasting my time? (prolly by some peoples measure) - or what are the best suggestions going forward to give the simplest of simple grows (and my first in many years)?

a ton.....it is a south facing window and its octagonal almost 3ft across and the closet really gets quite warm during the day regardless of weather - the amount of light just really struck me this morning.....its really very bright throughout the day - am I fooling myself?
how much light does the window get during the day?

Nah if the light is there ( especially if it comes from a high angle for at least 4 hours/day , you could easily grow there. You may have to keep the window open as the glass may block some of the spectrums of sunlight though. Throw a fan by the plant(s) and I bet you could get something grown there- but unless you suppliment the dayilight with artificial light I dunno how you will keep them vegging.

WInter is coming though so how will the sunlight be for the next 3 months ?

yea totally...thats a problem. I was gonna use the closet as a stealth grow....but I have to run extension cords for additional light, and maybe thats what I should do. Sounds to me like you're saying thats gonna be needed. By December we're gonna have as little as 16/8 so it could get totally compromised...and never move to flowering state?

You will need a light ( and the coord too I guess ):-|.

But on the bright side, you could start this project in a few months and it will work out well.

hey thanks for your support....I mean I know ffor a fact it will be certainly less than optimal....but I just keep thinking I should just begin at the beginning. And watch them grow and work with them, and then work out from there. I mean I know that using a BloomBox would be ideal....byut maybe starting with ideal is not necessarily the most important thing

hey...thanks man...cool suggestion. Very simple. and prolly very effective at that scale. i will look into that a little more. One of my challenges is to supply electricity to the room, and therefore the consideration fo a total natural light gro....but this presents serious limitation...thanks again!

get something simple like emily garden or something

The easiest method I saw on this site involves 2 flashlights and a picture of the sun.

ok...so we've been dealing with light n stuff...what about soil...there are a lot oa choices?....and then water schedule and ultimately nutrients once vege is finished? any thoughts?

and the general rule seems to be 1 gal per 1' plant height...so a perforated pot in a try - can one put nutrient solution into the tray and manage nutrients and mositrue in this way?

I have been reading some more and have another question - general guide seems to be 1 gal. container per foot of plant height. Is there ae specific reason NOT to use say a 3-5 gallon container right from the beignning?

I have also read that using a layer of hydrotron on top of the soil improves the use of the entire soil profile and also helps retain moisture? any thoughts?

https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/30622-my-little-babies.html check out my grow. Thats like 1-3 per pot. Lets dont even start talking about why i did that. Point is I did and look how that turned out. Its totally fine to plant in 5gal bucket. Sometimes better cause you dont have to deal with transplanting 2 or 3 tmes and risk damaging your plants. Also, alot of people that grow awesome weed outside do that. They dont want to have to be out in the woods transplanting a shit load of plants so they just put them in their home from the beginning. Start in 5gal and it will be fine.
And of course putting that on top of the soil will help. It will keep the light and air off of the soil causing it to stay moist longer. Some people just put like white paper plate cut to fit the bucket over the top. That also has the advantage of being white and reflecting light up under the leaves.

I didnt think of doing that... White paper plates over my pots to keep the moisture in and reflect the light.

Gonna try it to these girls :D

well....i went out and got a couple of 5gal flower pots with holes in the bottom, a couple of drip trays for them to sit in and some professional potting soil - will start germinating some seeds tonight - I have decided that I will also hooked up a CFL array - still not sure how many? prolly 6 or 8 (3-4 twins?) I am glad to have made this decision to go forward with a simple approach and start small and simple, and learn by doing. When I have some real progress, I will start a gro journal and we'll take it from there....wish me luck!:peace:
