That High School skunk

Some of that beasters was pretty good shit compared to the mexi, which was always a toss up.

Beasters was not nearly as compressed, few beans, and pretty dense. It was a nice break and I was always happy when the outdoor harvest made its way across the border
I'm sure the quality of beasters varies a bit, but the stuff I got was always the same. Big round nugs that looked like they might be okay from a distance, but smelled and tasted like moldy hay and never really got you high. The mexican shwag I used to get in high school didn't look nearly as good, but the smell, taste, and effects were superior to the beasters I encountered a few years later. I was told by my dealer that the beasters were chopped, thrown into a five gallon bucket and left to dry, no wonder they smelled like moldy hay. I'm guessing by the way you describe your experience with beasters that you were getting beasters from a grower who took much more care in drying and curing the bud, and was probably a different strain altogether. All I know is the beasters I used to get were complete garbage.

When the first stuff from Canada came over around Late a October or November, the first couple weeks would be kinda hay like. None of it was ever properly cured, at least not to the standards most do. It was usually pretty stoney in effect and was like you said round nugs, usually with a ton of red hairs. Memories, but apparently schwag is still around?

Shwag is definitely still making it's way into the US. Not really sure who's buying it, I'm guessing the poor and homeless. :???: Check out this recent shwag bust. The cops estimated the street value at $25 a gram. The three ton bust was estimated to be worth $76 million dollars (more like 7.6 million). Hope the cops patted themselves on the back real hard keeping all that shwag off the streets.

Good luck finding it, old school skunk is gone, I haven't seen any in over a decade. Europeans don't refer to skunk the same way we do in the states. A lot of "skunk" strains are fruity and not skunk at all in the way we're looking for.

I'd love to find it again too, I think about it everytime I drive by a skunk. Skunkiest cut I ever came across was from a bag I was sold as "white widow" not sure if it really was widow but it stunk up an entire wood shop when I had it in my pocket, I had to give it back and tell the dude to hold it until after work.
I understand what you're saying. as that's what I'm looking for...skunk that will almost make you gag !

I've only been toking for about 9 years. Damn DARE lied to me! Lol

Once I started, I never looked back. Can't say I've ever had real skunk, but I've definitely had skunky cannabis before.

Was it actually that good? I know there are some people like in this thread really loved it. But is it any better than what's out there?

It was good but keep in mind I was "new" smoker back then...in the early 90's while I was in California I smoked some bud that was claimed to be "skunk #1"....it WAS badass no doubt! It has been several years since I smoked anything that I would call skunk but have definitely smoked some bud that had skunky undertones to it.

Most strains I have smell to high heaven when not jarred.

I recall really loving Golden Goat. My god did that stuff smell so strong! I remember getting it in a jar and could still smell it from my trunk. As my friend said "smells like baby poo mixed with roadkill". Lol an odd description, but really was accurate.

When one is around cannabis all the time, one tends to get accustomed to it. I don't chase smells, I'm usually very happy with most strains smell and taste wise.

No, it is not better than what is available now. Not by a long shot. But it was much much better than anything else available during the time it was abundant. The only other strain that came around that compared was Christmas Tree. We had good sativas from time to time, but most of the sativa shipped to America wasn't cured and stored the way it is now.

I always enjoy people's stories about the times before me. I find it interesting and have always been curious of the experience, quality of the cannabis, the smuggling, the cost, shit I just like stories I suppose.

Skunk bud was right up there with the blueberry n widow that were going around my area at the same time.. Only real difference was you HAD to keep that shit in a jar or some sort.. I still like the smell of a skunk on the road (from a distance of course).
