Okay so I just came from Denver this past weekend and me and my spouse are thinking about moving there from TX. But on the way back the discussion came up and I want to know....how easy (or difficult) is it to get into the biz of growing, etc? Also I could have sworn I read somewhere that all the growing is messing with the water sources in CO for the bad. Has anybody else heard this and is it true?

Can't tell you about the industry climate, but as for the water I found this... Not so much about it messing with the water supply or anything, unless that is some separate issue, but what I found (articles) has to do with The Bureau of Reclamation which is a Federal agency that provides water to irrigation districts in some 17 states. Water that the Feds/DOJ doesn't want being used to grow pot... but apparently it is.

I found this kind of humorous.
"We're not an investigative agency. We're an agency that provides water to irrigation districts," said Dan DuBray, a spokesman for the Bureau of Reclamation in Washington, D.C. "The limit of our proactive stance is that if asked, we're not approving it, and if we become aware of it, we report it."

Heard that too, also heard that a kid died from overdose. It's all bullshit, no one is dead. Colorado would be the last place moved to get involved with the weed game. I dont think you can make a living with it, you can be a vendor and supplement your income but if it's your only means it might not happen. Dude I'm not trying to burst your bubble at all, I'm in the same boat but in California. Everyone that I talked with down here who owns a dispensary said go vendor, only because of law enforcement issues. Saying that dispensary/delivery are targeted more often.

To paraphrase SnapsProvolone who is a commercial cannabis growing consultant:
You need loads of money. Mom and pop do not exist in Colorado. Large amounts of capital are required.

He gives a typical setup cost of $100.00 per square foot if you are serious about getting into commercial cultivation.

Thank you for those articles!! I actually just saw some stats on it the day before yesterday about how crime went down and they were able to give a substantial amount to the school district as well. So it seems to definitely be working for the State. And I figured those claims might be somewhat made up...though I hadn't heard of the overdose?? As many years people have been enjoying it I've never heard of ANYONE dying from overdosing. Now all I have to do is find somebody to help me move all of my crap to CO. Anyone know of any good movers I can get quotes from? lol I know it's a long shot but any help will do...before I jump down a rabbit's hole on Google, Yelp, Yahoo and Moving Guru.

And by the AlecTheGardener thank you for that info as well. That gives me an idea price-wise of what I'd likely expect.

Its easy to overdose on edibles, it can make you feel real uneasy. But if this happens to you dont call 911, call the pizza guy. Just need to eat something to bring ya back down. Still to date, the only person who died from weed is the guy that got in the way and a ton of weed fell on him and crushed him. Still no deaths from overdose.

In terms of starting a new dispensary, newcomers are locked out of the Colorado recreational market until 2016. Move to Colorado and grow small for the love of growing. Or grow big illegally and face less risk than in Texas.

Bingo. Im out here because I love the plant. It is fascinating. For vending... You cannot get a rec shop without already owning a med. I dont think they are taking any new med shop applications.

For Growing.... Its difficult to get into but can be done. Bring a million dollars.
