I have a 400w MH inside a 4x10 grow area. My problem is that when the closet door is open temp is fine, however, when closed temp exeeds 90f. I have one small fan running right now, but wonder what else I should do or can do. I sleep in this room so leaving the door open is not an option. thanx.....................Jeff:joint:

Hmm a small fan isnt doing the trick? I use two 125 watt florsents right now...they get really hot without a fan but if i keep a fan on em they stay cool.....you said the fan on it doesnt help? And you cant keep the door open when you sleep? I'd say just keep the door open during the day with the fan, let it vent during the day, and then at night just keep the fan on it. If that doesnt help, I'd say ventilation system or AC unit but thats a lil extreme for your situation.

A 400w MH puts out a lot of heat. You've got to remove the hot air from the room. Even blowing air into a closed space doesn't work. You must exhaust it. Is there a chance you could cut a hole in the ceiling, to an attic above? Or a hole in the wall to another space, even a 4 inch axial fan will help, a larger fan would be better.

Indeed I will have to install an exhaust fan because even with the door open and two fans on, the temp is still 80f. I never realized the 400w MH would create so much heat. Any recommendations on where to purchase this exaust fan-home depot maybe? I was thinking about a simple bathroom exhaust fan. thanx for the response............

I was always told that if the light is too hot for your space, you should use a cool tube. Im using a 1000 w HP with a cool tube in a small closet and the temp is fine. Just need to have ventilation for the fan attached to your tube.

I'm not familiar with this 'cool tube'. Is this something that is installed on the light reflector?
Yes. The light is in the tube and air is blown threw it. I have a pic of 2 in my link on my sig. 80*f is fine. Keep it under 85* and you will be good.

Maybe you can get some sleeping shades so the light doesnt bother you. lol.

So I bought an exhaust fan/light at home depot and installed it where my closet light was. I am pleased to say that the temp has lowered a fair 7 degrees and is now 80f with the door closed. SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!
