Does the plant stretch the depth if the canopy, or the height of the plant? My plants are just over 2ft tall and I stripped about 60% of their bulk from the bottom 45% of the plant.

Stretch is when the plant gets taller. Your investment in hardware is just that, if it takes more than one grow then you still have what you initially bought.
