yes cuz while u r curing the bud still has a lil moisture in it and being in the dark which is where u should cure the bud in mason jars, it continues to ripen but without the chlorophyl u get from the light, and this helps remove the grass smell

This is my first time growing. I had no idea it smelled like cut grass at all haha. You should both dry and cure in the dark right? And so I should dry it till it smells dank, not like grass? When I smoke harsh bud I tend to feel sick you i'm trying to make it smooth.
Also, random question...I read that if you mist the leaves on your plant during light hours, the plant will be ruined...is this true?

theres tons of harvesting and curing tutorials on this site...

My method is to cut individual branches off, trim then finely, hang to dry for 4-7 days. Place in paper grocery bags for an additional 3-4 days (with top crimped closed). Transfer to jars (fill loosely). Keep in jars for 3-6 weeks. For the first week or two, uncap jars for an hour to let air out (prevents moisture build-up)

Ive found that the paper bag step dries the buds slowly, while wicking away excess moisture before putting into jars. This ensures the bud is at a good moisture level before jarring. If i were to just hang the buds up for 7-10 days, they would dry too quickly, and their smell could be lacking.

Good rule of thumb, never mist / sprinkle anything in daytime, including lights on. It magnifies and shit gets burned. I water my lawn at night too, and I have the nicest one on the block.

Yea, it surprised the hell out of me too. If it happens when you got it in the jars dump it out and let it dry all the way before going back in the jar or you end up with crap.
I have had friends tell me the smoothest smoke you can get is with water curing so if thats what your after I would look into that.

Yea the reason you dont want to spray plants when lights are on is because the water acts like a magnifying glass and burns the leaf. You dont necessarily ruin the whole plant but ya, it sucks.

For flavor it can depend on your smoking device too.

I just built a ceramic lighter and the flavor you get with this thing is great. I have almost no use for a bic now. FYI butane tastes like shit and is bad for you lol..............JR

Thanks bro. Two things...when I put them in the paper bags do you mean I should just troll the bags shut? And I can break the branches up before I cure them to fit in the jars right?

Oh, and i'm growing an auto flowering strain. I'm doing 20 hours of light and 4 hours of dark. Do you think 4 hours of dark will be a sufficient amount of time when I mist?

After you Harvest & dry out your bud Try Putting it in a Zip lock bag With some Paper towel Soaked with Vanilla Extract And leave it in the bag overnight in the morning take out your bud and test it the smoke should be smooth with a light vanilla flavour i find this method works well for me cause it makes it easier to do .9 Gram Bong Hits :weed::weed:

Officer Pothead you very well may be a genius. Should I do it after I dry and cure? You sure though that this wont take anything from the potency though? That is a sick idea i've never heard of that before. Did you come up with that yourself?

Well...the paper bag step can be tricky...depending on your mositure level. If you have it too wet before you put it into the bags it might mold with the top crimped or rolled up. Sometimes ive actually dried my buds by hanging, then bagged it and it became moist again so i had to leave the bags open for a week to ensure they're good for curing.

I hang dry in branch form, and after they're dry i cut the individual buds off the stems and cure them.

About the misting with lights on...Ive misted my plants in the morning with a 400w HPS on them...i saw no burns. I dont recommend spraying anything on them during flowering, could affect the bud.

Oh alright great to know man. I'm getting an autoflowering strain so yeah...good to know not to mist haha. It seems to me that the common method is to hang the buds for a few days before curing. Does putting the weed in the paper bags really do anything?

You can mist them in early flowering and of course veg...But be careful about misting around your lights...a cold drop of water on a hot bulb could break it.

Im not exactly sure if the paper bag method really does anything at all. Ive tried drying with, and without them and it seems like the stuff that i put in paper bags for a while is a little better smelling than straight hang drying.

But its not just me...Ive read tons of grow journals where people hang dry, then paper bag it, then cure it...Not only on RIU, but on grasscity and cannabis.com or w/e. But they bag it for weeks, not days.

Some people wouldnt have it any other way...its like their religion is paper bags.

I have become a believer in curing....adds to the flavor and potency quite a bit. I have an enclosed dry box with a fan pulling air by the buds.....drying times varie with size of buds....1-2 weeks is usually good....then I jar'em ......open'em in about 8-12 hours...most of the time they'll be a bit moist....I put'em in paper bags with some air gently blowing by....back to jar again....I do this until happy with drying...then jar and leave em except for an occasional burp....I vape my nugs which IMHO gives the most flavor....
That vanilla trick is pretty good....I use tasty puffs sometimes when bagging....otherwise I love the taste of good nugs as they are......

Alright straight man. Thanks a lot for the tip...good to know. You have any indication to when its time to paper bag the bud, and also take it out?

Cool, do you start curing when the stem still has a decent amount of moisture (it doesn't just snap)? What do you mean you vape your nugs? Oh, so you've tried the vanilla trick to...i'm definitely giving that a try.

ok people u dont wanna over dry ur buds..its a common mistake made by cannabis growers world wide..u want to dry till ur buds are dry and ur stems STILL BEND (when its done curing it should snap) then throw it in mason jars and open it 1-2 hours a day, its called burping ur buds. When u burp u take all ur bud out of the jar onto newspaper or whatever and let it sit for a hour or 2 until the bud is crispy again..then put it back in the jar till it gets moist again, about 12-24 hours. When u put bud in mason jars the humidity in the jar rises from the bottom up and spreads the moisture left in the stem to the buds so if u dont burp ur buds (open the jar) it will eventually mold so u gotta be careful..a good cure is not a week either thats a impatient cure a good cure lasts 4-6weeks.
