Tap Water PH 10.1 Other Options?

To bring my tap water down to a reasonable level for growing what can I use besides ph down? Too much ph down will hurt them right? Plus thats a lot of money in ph down.

If I put a water filter on my faucet will that lower the ph? Or just takes out the impurities?

How are you measuring your ph? 10 is crazy high, like milk of magnesia high.... Do you have a water softener on your house? If so, unless you use a reverse osmosis filter, the salt content of you water will kill anything you water it with. I recommend to fill up with reverse osmosis water from the grocery store from thw water machine...

I started growing before I got my meters. Ive tested the water out of 3 faucets in my apartment and it all reads 10.1. I calibrated the meter when I first got it yesterday. For whatever reason the water in my bubblers range from 7.2 to 7.7. Know what would of dropped my ph so much? Maybe my nutrients?

There arent any of those water filling things at any of the grocery stores around my house.

Is there anything I can put in the water to lwoer the ph without it taking a chance on harming my plants?

Will a water filter help?

I dont know what the city uses as far as water softeners and such.

and it wouldnt exactly be easy to get 15 gallons of water into my apartment every week. Would like kind of sketchy if anyone saw.

Well, the best option for you then is to get a revese osmosis filtration system on your faucet. It will take care of a ton of the salts in your water, and ph down to correct any ph problems.... But 10 for water is very high. 9 is possible, but I have never seen water at 10.

I must live by some hidden nuclear power plant or something. Ive tested the tap water at least 10 times and each one of my 3 bubblers about 4 times. Thier all staying the same. Tap water 10.1, bubbler #1 7.4, bubbler #2 7.7, and bubbler #3 7.2

Man is there anything else cheaper for the moment? I need to get one grow out so I can reinvest.

RO is the best... Other than that you can sit your water out for 48 hrs with an aerator in it... With a ph that high, you HAVE to test the ppm, I imagine it is really high. Your water is made that high for a reason, generally to prevent lead from older pies from leaching into the water.... The apartment you are in probably softens their water... I would test the ppm....

The PPM is around 250 straight out of the tap.

that's crazy if that is city water you need to get on your local water dept and complain its supposed to be 6-8 at most by law at least where i live anyway

Yeah cities will do that if their water supply lines are really old and lines with lead... The higher ph prevent the lead from leaching into the water, but I have never heard of any town reaching higher than 9.3...

one of those britta filters will bring your ppm down to 80 or so, i have the same thing at my house, they ph is 8.1 with a ppm of 256 roughly, i use a britta faucet top filter and it brings the ppm down to 7.2 or so which is still to high, dont be afraid fo ph down, it wont kill your plants, if your in a pinch squeeze half a lemon if a gallon of water and it will give you 5.5 roughly

The lemon would kill some of the germs in my bubblers too wouldnt it? Right on Ill have some pinesol weed. Ill try one of the brita filters for now. See how much it brings it down. Was planning on getting one anyways.

lemon is ok, but the biological acids tend to lower ph, but when left for a period of time the ph will rise again... PH down is fine to use...

City water has chlorine so it is a poor choice for growing. However ANY waters PH can be manipulated up or down.

If you wish you can set up a distiller in your apt. by either buying one pre made or by using two pots and ice and distilling your own on the stove.

Complain to your landlord. The EPA limit for drinking water is a PH of 6.5-8.5. They should be delivering free water to you.

My suspicion is measuring error though. A PH of 10.1 is undrinkable, you would spit it out. PH is measured on a logarithmic scale. If you really have water with PH of 10.1, then your water is 1000 times more alkaline than water with a PH of 7.1.

my ph out the tap is 8.0 and my ppm are between 300-400

Haha it doesnt look like that but I dont drink the water out of the tap. It has a funk to it. Going to get a brita filter now. Ill let you know if it helps at all when i get back from wally world.

If its not one problem its another. Went and got a pur filter for my faucet. Go to put it on and cant get the aerorator off the dang kitchen faucet. Got the one off the bathroom faucet but of course none of the fittings work on that. Guess its a calcium buildup on the threads of the aerorator. Thinkin about going to get some CLR to hopefully loosen the fitting.

Anyone have any other ideas of getting it off? It took a 12" monkey wrench to it and it didnt budge. Put some nice scratches and a couple dings from hitting it with the wrench.d
