sorry guys just need to vent I messed my knee up fairly good back in sept of 17 and went to the good old doc who sent me to a specialist who I seen in oct who said I need an MRI. After dealing with a knee that pops out of joint with out knowing causing severe pain. I finally got my MRI 7 months after the fact in March. I go back to see the specialist for the results he says I have two fractures to my knee cap and a bucket handle tear of the meniscus and I need to have surgery ASAP. So he tells me he will try and get me in with another surgeon who is doing surgery this week if not he has the operating room booked in two to three weeks. So it’s been over a week and my knee has been swollen up and hurting. I call the specialists office to find out if I might be booked for surgery. The receptionist says well you should have filled out the paper work when you were here last week if you were to get booked for surgery within the next month. I replied that the doctor told me he was going to see if he could get me in with the other surgeon because he was doing surgery this week and my doc does not have the operating room booked for 2 to 3 weeks. So the recpiontist say really quick well I have a message in for your doc to see if he transferred you we will call you as soon as he replies goodbye and promptly hangs up. So two days go by and nothing from the specialist so I call this morning to see if I have been booked for surgery and the receptionist tells me my specialist is behind in dictation(what ever this means) and he transferred me. When will I have surgery I ask and she replies he’s booking 4 weeks just to review your mri. Holy fuuuuucccxkkk

The worst part is it did not happen at work and since September I have probably missed 10 to 12 days due to the injury. Thus causing me to use up my last week of holiday pay and now I’m off with out any pay. At least I have lots of good old organic home stone to distract my mind from the pain of the knee and anxiety of wondering if I will get this fixed with in the next few months when I thought it would be done in weeks.

Have you considered a bribe? I know it sounds funky but here in the states it's all about the money. Is this how all injuries are handled in Canada? JFC!

I feel you man. My neck is fucked from arthritis and there is nothing they can do except surgery and only when I can no longer walk would it be worth it to do the surgery. It took them two years to identify this arthritis damage in my neck, meanwhile I was in pain everyday. They sent me to do an MRI and forgot contrast, I had to go for 3 different MRIs because they kept fucking up, each one with 3 months in between. So I totally feel you man.

I do not think a bribe would work but I’m in no financial situation to even make a bribe so I won’t be finding out lol

I really don’t want to use employment insurance but at this point it looks like I might have to. Does anyone know how to go about applying I have done some searching on the governments webpage. It’s good and vague so I call the phone number and waiting on hold for an hour and 40 min for some beep tone and then the call drops like the lady transferred me to a fax machine lol

Don't feel bad about using it, you paid into it after all. I've only ever tried to use it once but had another job before I received the first check. All I did was go down to the UI office (Ontario)...that was a long time ago though maybe someone has done it more recently.

Thanks buddy I have never filed but my mother inlaw had her large intestine removed a couple years ago and she said her doctor gave her some forms to fill out. So I have a call back into my favourite receptionist lol:wall:

You would have to get an ROE (Record of Employment) from your employer stating you’re off due to illness/injury that is not work related. You can’t file for UI without the ROE.

That’s what I read and then it also states that I need a medical certificate from my doctor that indicates the amount of time I will be off. So I get a call back from my specialists office and she acts like I’m speaking in a different language when I ask if I can get a medical note for UI faxed to my employer while I’m waiting for surgery. She says have your employer fax a request wtf. So I call and talk to my hr department and mention that they would like her to fax a request for my medical note for UI and the HR dept tells me they can not request anything from my doctor as that would be a privacy violation. Can I go and get a medical note from a local GP even though i have a specialist as my doctor?

The most important thing you need to know is
YOUR CLAIM ONLY STARTS THE DAY YOU FILE IT.
File NOW, they will request any paper work you need as the claim proceeds. If you file now you can eat up the wait time (penalty if any) while you are hustling up the paperwork they want. If you need money to pay rent go to social assistance office.
