Will a clone produce good cuttings?
You will get a genetic match. Genetic drift does occur when taking cuttings from cuttings from cuttings and so on. But it takes many generations and the many different circumstances each generation grew up in. Doubt you would see much difference unless you repeat this process over many years.

im planning on buying one and taking a dozen clipping from it then cross it with a male from my own strain

FYI, I thought this same thing for years, up until a couple weeks ago. Another poster said genetic drift is impossible without male and female making offspring. And sure as shit, he
was rite, look it up. It surprised the shit outta me! What's possible, is/are genetic mutations. Just a heads up :bigjoint:

Ok I guess I will replace drift with mutation. And FYI environmental factors can alter genetics or genes if you will...

Absolutely! Totally agree. Not quite sure i've experienced that though. I grew big bud for about five years, years ago, until it appeared to "fizzle out". After doing a bunch of reading recently(because of that pesky poster lol), i believe we picked up something systemic instead, from my buddy treating his mommas like shit.

There are some that say no... Maybe with their abilities to grow, the clones of clones had issues...
I have no idea what some say when they say clones of clones the quility will drift...
Hog wash....
My experience: 300+ clones of clones in the past say 12 months...
My clones are getting bigger [I only clone the bigger plants]
Faster [I only clone the fastest growers]
Better [One hit shit-over and over and over]
I started with one mom...
Cloned her until I could clone her clones...
Grew her out and have not looked back...
I grow for myself... no one else...

I think it's pretty well known now, that if you treat your mommas/strain well, that reduces the chance of picking up some bad shit. The longer you keep that strain alive, naturally, the more chance some bad shit can happen, like pythium or something else.

If you run a plant from seed and then clone it a few times it will change a bit until it matures. After that the clones will basically be the same every time (although they will change phenotype if environmental conditions change).

I never keep mothers just keep taking clones before they go into flower. Some varieties I have cloned dozens of times over the years and they perform the same. In some cases the clones went through tough times but once they recovered to healthy growth they are as good as new.

Exactly.that process has always worked well for me too. don't give up on the clones too quickly.

Thanks for all the input guys. Now another question. ... im doing this for breeding purposes. Which would be better, to buy the female clone and grow a male of my genetics to cross with her ? or to buy a male clone and cross with a female of my genetics? i know all about the culling process btw

why bother trying to breed your own ? the problem is. ok your herm a plant to make seeds or get a male and female get seeds great. ok the problem is the pollen in in the house . and will be there for ever, how will you get rid of it 100 % to be sure a month or 6 months later you can cross contaminate the plants and your all done. those will be making seeds to, this is a very bad idea I would not even do it out side, unless I was in the seed business, just order some seeds and be done.

i have a good strain myself, iv worked on it for a very long time. i will not be doing it indoors either. its more of an experiment really....what i have has a very sweet but pungent smell and great trich production, the clone i want to buy is a Jack the Ripper, i figured they would make a nice cross

Pollen will not hang around a house for months. Once released maybe a few days at best unless it is stored in a very dry container. Moisture will soon make it unviable.

Most breeders will tell you finding a good breeding male is key.
