This is my 1st official grow, well, maybe not "official" enough cus I considered it an experiment at beginning, no tent, no temp & humi control, no pH control, no nothing but just a 250w HPS, that's why it took me much more time than an average grow time I guess. It's been vegged 2 months and 9 weeks into flowering now, plus another week till harvest it's gonna be 10 weeks.
This result gives me a lot confidence on next grow, and I managed to get a 600w air-cooled HPS, a 5'x5' tent and all that, thinking to start a 4 plants Scrog in it, so, it won't be worse than this time

Now you are giving me confidence! I finally got a 250w HID but I didn't have it during veg (took me over 2 months to veg a decent bush with t8s). I would have gone with a 400 or 600w but the heat scared me off. thank man! 250w HID is a pretty decent light for us begginers, I'm sorry to hear that u didn't get a chance to veg your plant with it cus I heard that HID lamps are the best light source for vegging, and the HPS is the best for flowering. your plant would have been much bushier if U got the lamp earlier. anyways if I can do it with such poor condition and experience, you sure can do it too!!
speak about 400 or 600w, you have to consider your growing area first, which could be a small tent or a room, if it's a small space your gonna have to have an air-cooled hood and an exhaust fan for it, but if u have a large area such as a grow room, I believe 400w/600w are not to hard to handle with, U can keep plants from getting too close to the light and reduce the heat by a normal fan or an A/C.
