hey all hope everyone's doing good, i was just evaluating some t5 systems for clones and what not and i was wondering to hear everyones opinions on a t5 system. ive done a little research and the results ive found have been rather hit and miss as far as success goes. Anyone got any knowledge on the subject?

They work very well....For vegging. Not so great for flowering due to its low penetration, but outstanding as far as vegging clones and seeds. The beauty with these are, they can be hung verticle or horizontal! You can literally make a grow box with these lights.

for clones nothing is better for vegging you need 8 to 24 bulbs for flowering i would go hps. im gonna try it and see for my self though it will be in the same room with 2 600s and 1 1k. as mentioned above you can hang them both ways im gonna use 2 8 bulbs on the sides and a 12 bulb on the top heres a link to the newest in t5s and they are serious. they are nice and have a lotta new tech in em compared to older t5s

I love mine. I found these cool 55w compact T5's that put out almost as many lumen as as standard 55w T5 (4,800 vs 5,000) but are only 21" long compared to the 48" of a standard T5.

I use one to two bulbs in my seedling/clone/mother cab and three in my veg cab. I can keep the bulbs 2" off the top of the plant without any problem. Makes for nice short bushy plants.

wow how big is your room sounds way small how many plants do you have in there and what about flower what lighting system do you use in there

some of the best looking vilator kush an red diesel ive seen come from under a 16 bulb t5 system with a 32 site areoponics setup he built a box around it with the lights other than that thats all ive seen good

T5 is fine for veg, it's overly priced for cloning though. Why spend $100 on T5 for clones when you could spend $15 on CFL's. I've flowered with T5's as well, and you just won't get the buds you will with HID's. It has to do with light penetration. Fact is a T5 isn't bright enough to penetrate fan leaves, so unless you are doing tops only like a SCROG (and I still would rather use an HID) it's just going to be a wasted investment.

Anyone who says different, or talks about how CFL's or T series lights can do just as well as an HID, hasn't ever used an HID.

They get hot! You should invest in an HID rig (easier to cool).
I hope your not serious.......
The T5 lights themselves are actually cool enough to have them an inch away without burning. The ballast housing in a T5 will heat the same space more than a 250 Watt HPS. Plus if you do go bigger you can always get an air cooled setup.

I have definitely had an easier time controlling heat with my HID.:leaf:

Maybe I read it out of context, but if your suggesting that a T5 system runs hotter than a HID set up, I would say that is not true.

T5 run slightly cooler than T8.

Ive never burned myself on a T5 or T8, but sure as shit have burned my self on some HID lighting.

serious and correct

no one said they get as hot as an hid he said they also get hot thats it and the big 12 bulb t5s (the ballast in them) produces the same amount as a 400 watt hps will or close to it

The two small cabs that I use for moms/seedlings/clones and vegging are just cheap Home Depot white cabs (14x24x36). My flower cab is another Home Depot special but is bigger (20x36x78), I run a 250w HPS in there.

How large of a space are you talking about? In my 9x9 grow room, The whole Light fixture doesnt even get warm....The temp stays at 80 degrees in the room, and thats with an Oscillating fan blowing shit around. Its a 4ft 8 lamp.
