ok i currently am i using 1 600w mh to veg and another 600w hps to flower, i want to put my 600w i use for veg and put my extra hps bulb in it and move it into my grow tent so i have 2 600ws in my grow tent and i am considering using t5 flouros to veg with now has anyone used T5's before please help!!!:leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf:

I use a small 2' T5 to veg.
I can only do 4, maybe 5 realistically.
Unless they only veg for 2-3 weeks.

I use 250w hps to flower, only 2-3 at a time, so the T5 works great for me.

t5's are money for vegging as long as you are not needing heat in the area, they run very cool. So during winter months they can be counter productive since you may need a heater to keep temps up.

I use T5 as well, and agree that for veg they are money. If you want 1200W to flower I suspect that your grow is pretty big. You don't give the size of the veg area but, I think that you would be looking at a pretty large T5 set up. My experience is that it will bump room temps up about 7 deg in my tent. Of course your results may vary. Just one mans opinion, take it for what it' worth.

I am planning to switch to fluorescents for veg, as well, so i'm, glad to see this topic. I was using two 400 watt MH conversion systems in veg, and the damn things are stretching too much. I had much bushier plants under fluoros, so I'm moving those two 400 watters to bloom, to add to the 400 and 600 that are already in there(5.5 x 6.5).

I'm not going to use T5's though, I'm going with T8's. They work great if you use the 6 bulb fixtures,(bulbs are nice and close together) much better than the 400 watt MH that I'm using now. I'm getting a little over 4,000 lumens per square foot, and they cover more area very evenly, with no hotspots or weak spots. I already have some of the T8's, or I would probably go with the T5's, but i just can't justify spending the money, when the T8's work great, and are more efficient, per watt. Oh yeah....also, the T8's are only a good option if you go with the 6-bulb fixtures, because the other fixtures have the bulbs spread out too far, and won't give you enough light intensity. Ha, I sound like a T8 salesman.

Seriously though, those T5's will work great, as long as you don't plant to veg much bigger than 16-18". I plant to keep mine 14" or less.

why shouldnt i plan on them getting bigger than 16-18 inches i usually let them veg to about 2ft

the problem with letting them get too big is that the t5's light doesn't penetrate very deeply, other than that, i love them, will use nothing else ever..

I use 4' 8 bulb T5s and have the greatest results. I only veg 4 under there once they get so big, but I can get them 5 feet with no problems, then switch them to flower room.

The Tall lady up front is Blue widow and the one in the very back is Super Lemon Haze, both of them will be set deep into 5 gallons containers today so that will be their heigth down for a minute.

man.. those are some nice looking pants gg.. very nice... they are gonna be some trees when you get done with them i would imagine though..

I also use a 600hps for flowering. I want to grab a tent soon and move up to a 1000.
But for now the 600 will be fine.

I'm using a 4-foot, 8-bulb T5 fixture that I got for free when my old place of work closed (It was used as a shop light). Works great but does get pretty warm (it has no cooling fans). I've suffered some heat issues but they are resolved now by adding a nice big fan in the room to circulate air. Ambient temp 74*F, veg room temp anywhere from 80-85*F. I'm planning on getting 8 new 6400k bulbs to replace the ones that are in there. They are about 2 years old now.

I think if you get a 8-bulb T5 fixture you'll be very satisfied. I also have the choice to run 2 bulbs, 4 bulbs, 6 bulbs, or 8 bulbs at one time so it's great. I start out with 2, then a week in I turn 2 more on, etc. Win win for me!:bigjoint:

Thanks.. Yeah I love growing tree's but it's time consuming and can be stressful when you need to lst 2-3 weeks into 12/12 :wall:

BEAUTIFUL!!!!:weed:

Yeah i have been planning to use t5s all along for my upcoming grow but i was plannin on adding alot more cfl light for the veg stage.. seeing the pics of a fully vegged plant under t5s has inspired me to do something very similar to Dr.RR the 8 bulbs will work perfectly with my upcoming grow.. leave it to RIU to get the best growers around in 1 spot!!

Dude I am ready to move mine into flower tomorrow I have been vegging them under an 8 bulb 4' long t5 for the last 5 weeks. check them out they are beautiful. t5 is the wat to go for vegging...

Never used a MH. Here is my 8 bulb 4’ T5. I like it. Plants can touch it and no burn. I sometime have it like an inch from the plants. Can run blue and red combo. Run all 8 or 4 inside or 2 outer on each side. Keeps plant short tight and good veg growth. Makes node on top of node with little to no space. If you have good side reflection you can raise the light and stretchem a bit to you desire. I think you would be pleased. But if you get a digital hid ballast you can burn mh or hps...Happy growing!

Nice Light Show SL2.

Hi Clevland, gonna go check out your grow in a minute.
Been real busy, just transplanted my 2 sativas into 5 gallon buckets.

Hello i hav a question... Im using 2x18w t8's, 2 feet long each.. for 5 seedlings at the moment and was wondering as to how long these floros can veg my seedlings for? I was thinking about keeping them under for about 2 weeks 24/7 then swicth to my 400w dual spec hps on 18/6 then later flower..

Shud i switch to my hps earlier than 2 weeks since my floros arent that strong and my plants may stretch? i just want the best for my plants and want them to be bushy not tall :D heres a pic or to so you know what im talking about.
thanks
