Supernova 270 burning plants?

I know a guy offering me his Supernova 270 saying he does not like it. Claims it burned his plants but he is new to LEDs so maybe he is doing something wrong? I been looking around at if and how LED lights can burn plants. I will only have 1 to 2 foot clearance in my box. I run CFL now and can get them inches away. How much distance would I need for this light?

the basis on led's is you need them a certain distance away (i think 1.5-2ft) from the plants. This allows the effected radius's each diode to blend with eachother, giving the plant a balanced spectrum throughout instead of concentrated amounts. He most likely had it too close.

LED's are great lights for energy efficiency and low heat sig for small spaces. But they're not going to 'burn' plants. I'd buy it and then just keep it about 18" away from your plants. And putting the LED light any closer doesn't help because the individual LEDs need a bit of distance for the different colors (wavelengths) to converge.

Have fun growing!!

I was reading something about LEDs at close range can cause photoinhibition due to unseen light frequencies or some shit. I am a total noob when it comes to LEDs. I've read that you can keep them close just not as close as florescent bulbs. I just want to be sure 1 to 2 feet is enough.

also forgot you want to slowly introduce plants into the LED room, Im sure if you just put em in there they will not like such intense new light

lol, It's not that I don't trust ya Bio It is that I still had questions. Thanks for the info! And Nizza I think that may be what "burned" his plants. They went from T5 to a beastie LED.

I think it would depend on the power of the LED unit.
I'm only running 75 watt mini UFO's. Probably really only 50 watts and I know for a fact. If the LED is to close to your plant. It can cause burning. I had one of my lights 8 inches away from the top of one of my girls and yep. 3 days later i noticed there was leaf damage. Since then, moved the LED to 1 foot above canopy.
