sounds like your roots soil was just old and anaerobic remember its in a bag and not sterilized(maybe pasteurized but not sterile) so it can go bag should have spread it out to dry befor using it and the fact you probably kept it a little over watered prevented it from getting better.

My super soil smelt like straight shit the first week when I was mixing it, but now its at about day 40 and smells dirt should smell.

Yeah man it should only smell like shit for like the first week after that it should smell earthy. It only smells like shit the first few days because of all the organic shit you mix into it.
