Which do you buy? Special bulbs (spectrum enhancing / extra lumens etc)
Im using an "enhanced spectrum" htgsupply bulb...23.95$ (without shipping)

But i hate spending even that on a single light bulb i could get 2x 250 watt hps bulbs @ that price on 1000bulbs (WITH SHIPPING!) , but they are just regular hps bulbs......(2100k / 29000 lumens vs. my current 2100k 33k lumen bulb ....i rly dont think it would be that big a difference.

What do you guys think? Save 20$ or just fork out 50$+Shipping for 2 bulbs which still is not a bad price vs. top notch brands. But im a bit low on funds right now and Really need to swap out my bulb and pick up another ballast (really need to invest in some half decent nutrients this time around aswell)
so im trying to save money wherever i can , Any opinions are more than welcome. Thank you for your time.

I tried the cheap bulbs. They work but cost like hell to run. I buy digilux off ebay. You can save money that way. I have had much better luck and better plants with the digilux. Your call. Your ballast is another thing also. It is best to spend the money for a good ballast. I would recommend the Phantom. I use the 600 watt. Very efficient with the digilux bulb. You can't go wrong with this set up. All this is Digital so you have to get the right timer also. Never ever touch the bulbs with your bare hands.

I'm sorry but I have a good reason for so many posts.Nutrients. I use Fox Farms. Again go to ebay. Soil or hydro they are a good deal. If you go with Fox Farms get a feeding schedule with them. If who ever you are buying from insist on it. If you don't understand it ask someone who knows. Their soil is also a very good soil such as Ocean Forest. It is a good one to go with. Everything else you need to know ask questions. Never think your so good not to ask. Everybody who is successful had to ask questions before they became successful. Just because it is a weed means nothing when you want to be successful.

They probably have them and they are pretty cheap. No reason to spend more unless you want to. :bigjoint:

aight guys im sorry i did NOT mean to make it seem like i was a noob :P , I know what ballasts are i know common safety sense etc :) this is my 3rd year doing this so i made most of my noob mistakes and am really starting to get the hang of things / my product is getting better and better each time. came to terms with what type of grow i want etc.

I am only using 250 watt bulb and shes gonna be parked in a stealth dresser grow with a DIY Pyrex Cooltube (saved a shitload with this diy) soon. Reason for ordering an entire nother ballast and bulb is becuz i want to build / start the dresser while my current grow remains intact then my 250 w ballast in my tent will be retired as a backup system after eventually using it to pollinate the fuck outta my master kush plant (have a shitload of pollen i saved from a male)

I am simply inquiring this - is a bulb like these 2 following links REALLY gonna make that big a difference -

htgsupply.com/Product-GrowBright-250-Watt-HPS-Lamp.asp
http://htgsupply.com/Product-HTGSupply-250-Watt-HPS-Lamp.asp

Compaired to a standard hps bulb - http://1000bulbs.com/product/6466/LU250ECO-67578.html

Is their really that big of a ground breaking perfomance in this? I mean 250 watt hps aint that strong to begin with , I can understand if i was using like a 1000w light and my life depended on this shit but im simply just a small time guy keeping myself and a few buddies supplied. My logic may actually be twisted a bit here...since im using the lower lumen based system i probly SHOULD be trying to squeeze every last lumen out.

As i do appreciate every single post in this thread plz dont get me wrong :) I just dont feel too many of you really understood what i was asking :) I shall rep you all in the near future as i do not have time atm gotta run be back then.

More than likely i will be buying the more expneisve bulbs regardless. I have been using the same one for 2 years now (honestly) and have not noticed a single difference in yields etc......but i wanna start changing them every 6 months now.

In other words i think we over analyze things way to much my bulb is def at its max lumen loss and i honestly dont see much loss....i supplement with cfls anyway so my sprectrum is preaty wide.

Yaaaaa can ya tell im the dude in the circle that never shuts the fuck up when they are stoned.....Sorry for the massive block of text :)

You cannot simply say that. Someone will show you a nice plant in miracle grow.. Does not mean to settle for less. <3

I also have no beefs with miracle grow and belive over watering and over ferting with miracle grow soil is easy to do and therefore its deemed the devil but i personally used it for my first few grows and never had a problem with taste or anything at all...i flushed good at the end ofc. i am also purely organic and mix my own soil now but for the starting noobs out there...hell why not? i feel like a noob would have more nute deficiency issues in a soilless medium off the get go than they would in miracle grow , Most noobs just start off in miracle grow so therefore you hear more people bitchin about thier miracle grow...

I.e. how many threads do you see that as soon as the op posts they use miracle grow thats instantly their problem in everyones mind? , Whereas its usually just overwattering / everytime u water in miracle grow , you get a blast of nutes , so dont use dinky pots that are gonna dry out quick and dont water every damn day...was as easy as that for me.

But hell, the entire world has its own opinions etc.

Can you grow nice plants with standard hps bulbs? yes. you can.

All i needed to know:) i do respect opinions as i do yours as well. Thank you everyone for your help. I decided to go with the htgsupply 23$ bulb 250w hps bulbs anyway , becuz id only be saving 20$ by buying sylvania bulbs. and these bulbs are preaty cheap for "Enhanced spectrum" Bulbs. 33,000 lumens +Enhanced spectrum for 23.95$ vs. 29,000 lumens standard spectrum for $13.57

Heh, did someone say Miracle Grow? I run Moisture Control once in a while, when I can't get Pro-Mix. The plant above was grown in it. OTOH, their Potting Mix is fairly hot for our needs. Similarly, all lamps cannot be lumped together based on their cost. I've tested a lot of various lamps; currently testing some Digilux 1Ks. The only thing I can tell you, as a rule of thumb, is to buy a lamp from a "real" company: GE, Ushio, Eye, Sylvania, Philips, etc. Good luck.
