super bright setting

Okay I got this HT hypo tek 400w ballast with a dim setting. What's the super bright setting do exactly (other than juice it), why is it brighter? Will it shorten bulb or ballast life?

if it has the ability to go over the normal setting it will kill the bulb faster.

the ballast has that ability to account for inconsistent bulb manufacturing, differant size reflector hoods, and differant installation heights.

u gotta keep in mind these things were initially made to light up ballfields and warehouses, the more flexability a ballast has the more comercial aplications
